She was walking down the staircase and everywhere was dark, pitch black, everywhere felt cold , silent and felt as though there was no one else in the world. It felt as though rapture had taken place and she was the only one living in the world

Her footsteps made noise, echoes bouncing from wall to wall living her with the feeling of fear.

She kept coming down the stairs
Each step made her scared
She felt like the world was crumbling down but in actuality, she was walking down the staircase.

She walked down step by step, little by little, dragging her feet as lazily as ever and walking as gently as possible.
With each step she took, fear engulfed her.

She wanted to go back , but she couldn't, She just kept going.

She wanted to stop but she couldn't, she just kept going.
She was so scared but didn't know the reason for her fear
She kept going down the staircase

She kept going and going and going and it started to feel like the stairs were multiplying

Few steps to the ground, she halt.
She heard a sound. A sound coming from somewhere far but not too far

Somewhere close but not really close
Close enough for her to hear but too far for her to decipher the source of the noise

"Mom?" she called out but heard no response
" Who's there?"

"Is anyone there?" She asked frantically but still heard no response

"Mom?"
"Mom quit the joke"
"Mom?" She called out shakily yet no response, just the sound of her voice echoing giving her more chills.

She tried calling out one more time but this time in a whisper
"Mom?"

Realizing that nobody or nothing, whatever it may be would hear her, she took one more step

"M-m-m-o-m?"
"M-o-m-m-m-m?" She called out with shivers

She went quiet for a while trying to listen carefully and pick out even a tiny sound.

Then she heard a louder thud, this time closer but still not close enough for her to decipher what the sound is and where it was coming from.

She stopped
She heard it again, this time like the sound of plates shattering on the floor.

"Oh really? It's coming from the kitchen?" She said inwardly feeling a little relieved but still scared.

She stopped and tried to figure who or what it may be because she was sure nothing went awry between her mom and her before going to bed.

She heard the sound one more time followed by footsteps
At first, she thought it was her footstep but realizing she had been on a spot for a while, the fear sets in again. The steps didn't sound like a walking step but sounded like the feet of someone dragging on the floor in a tired way, she became even scared.

"Who's there?"
"I've got knives in my hands, and I won't hesitate to hurt you" She said hoping the creature would have a rethink and reveal its identity or whoever it is would quit the joke when in reality she was holding nothing but her fear and the stair railing for balance
"I can fight you , I'm pretty good with karate" She said again trying to be as confident as possible but realizing that she bunked on all the karate class and every other martial art class her mom signed her up for, she laughed inwardly regretting her decision then.
Suddenly, the lights flicker on and off
The lights continued flickering on and off and then stopped

She took the last step and stopped at the foot of the staircase
She turned on the light and looked towards the kitchen but saw nothing then the light went off.
