________________________________"A vacation?" Maria was more than surprised when she opened the door that morning with a bundle of her cousins and aunts standing behind it. They were family from her mother's side, ones she hadn't seen in years or knew that they'd been in America.
"We feel so terrible about what happened, and that we hadn't noticed or tried harder to see you." Her Tía Alejandra spoke, sadness creasing her eyebrows. Her Tía Alejandra was her mom's older sister, her and Maria's dad never liked each other. Her Tía never had a good feeling about Maria's dad, never approved of him, and was always trying to convince Maria's mom to leave him.
"It's not your fault Tía Alejandra." Her aunt shook her head. Maybe it was the eldest sister in her, but she felt responsible for everything that happened to her sister Valeria. Her death, Maria, and everything that had happened to Maria. Her sister was her responsibility, and she'd failed her. She failed her once by not saving her and she failed her twice by not looking out for Maria.
"We want to make it up to you. We want to make up for lost time." Maria missed her family, she'd forgotten how much they reminded her of her mom, how much they looked and acted like her. "It's a nice place that we're going, it's a hotel by the beach with tons of tourist sights and shops. We'd love it if you came with us." Maria glanced at Schneider who sat beside her. He'd never met any of Maria's family besides her grandfather on her dad's side and her father.
"We really would, we can go bathing suit shopping and we can get clothes and jewelry it'll be so fun!" Her cousin squealed, she was Maria's age, about two or three months older.
"I'd love to, but it's up to Schneider." They all looked at him, his cheeks growing bright pink at the attention.
"Of course, she can go!" Maria jumped up happily, her and her cousins jumping up and down as they squealed. It was a girl's vacation, with no uncles or guy cousins. They said they would teach Maria how to do makeup, get her hair done, get their nails done, do tons of clothes shopping, and stock up on so much jewelry that Maria would need another jewelry box.

"Man, I'm so jealous." Alex frowned as he entered the living and dining room. "Maria went to the beach for the break with her mom's family. They're staying in a hotel room with two rooms. It's called a suite." His mom snorted and shook her head as she cut out coupons from the newspaper.
"Fool, I've seen Basketball Wives, I know what a suite is." Alex sighed when she went back to cutting out the coupons.
"We never go on vacation." He huffed, plopping down on the couch. Maria told Alex she was going on vacation, but she said she wanted to focus on spending time with her family. So, she asked him not to text but to call if there was an emergency or something of that sort. She posted various pictures of her and her family or things she'd bought or pictures of the beach and things she ate.
He missed her, he even debated on calling her but he didn't want her to think something happened. She and Alex had already told his mom and Schneider that they were together which was an interesting conversation, to say the least.
"Oh, yes, we do. You just don't know because last time we went, you were too young to form memories. Where do you think your Mickey Mouse ears came from?" She asked, placing down her scissors.
"The Dollar Store. They're not even Mickey Mouse, they're Ricky Rat." Elena sighed, rolling her eyes. She was trying to study for her SAT, and Alex whining right beside her wasn't at all helping.
