(Pic above is Fernpaw!) (I also edited the description of the book lol)

———————

Cloverpaw woke up to the sun in her eyes. She turned to her side. No Mothpaw in sight. Sighing, she got up and stretched, then padded towards Grayflower's den.

"Mothpaw?" She whisper-shouted. "Mothpaw!"

Mothpaw jerked awake. "What?! I was trying to sleep!" She spat, angry with sleepiness.

Cloverpaw lowered her ears. "Just wanted to see if you were awake," she mewed sheepishly.

"Well I am now," Mothpaw huffed.

Grayflower padded into the little area where Mothpaw was staying. "Mothpaw? You can go out for training today, just don't be too rough, okay?" She purred, trying to blink the sleepiness from her eyes.

"Yay!" Cloverpaw cheered. "I'm gonna go get some prey to eat, then we'll be ready for training!" She bounced away, looking for a scrawny vole or mouse to munch on. She picked up a mouse, quickly scarfed it down, and started grooming her pelt.

"Cloverpaw!" Hawkleaf called. "Get Mothpaw and meet us by the entrance. We're going to teach you some basic fighting moves."

Cloverpaw nodded, waiting for about a heartbeat before Mothpaw emerged from the medicine den. She noticed Mudpaw immediately bounce over to her, chirping on how happy he is that she's able to start training again. Cloverpaw started fangirling over them.

After a while of them chatting, Mudpaw walked back towards a group of cats. Cloverpaw could make out a few of them. Shadowfur, Deerstorm and Mudpaw, Thornwing and Fernpaw, and Oaknose. They were going on a border patrol, according to what Honeypaw told her. Finally, after what felt like moons, Mothpaw had eaten and stood by the entrance. Cloverpaw padded over there a moment later.

"Come on," Fawncliff said, starting to head over to the Training Hollow. "We're going to teach you some basic battle moves."

"Alright," Hawkleaf purred, flexing her claws. "Cloverpaw, attack me." Cloverpaw stared at her. Attack her mentor? What nonsense! Hesitating, she sprang with her claws sheathed, aiming for her neck. Hawkleaf effortlessly shifted her body and performed a counterattack.

"Like this, Cloverpaw."

Hawkleaf and Fawncliff dropped down into fighting stances. Fawncliff used her smaller size to quickly run underneath Hawkleaf when she tried to leap at her. Now face-to-face, Fawncliff slashed at Hawkleaf's face with sheathed claws. The bigger cat faked a yowl of pain as Fawncliff tried the same tactic Hawkleaf tried, but the tortoiseshell rolled onto her back and sprang back onto her paws. She stood normally before turning towards the apprentices, their mouths wide open.

"That was-" Mothpaw started.

"Amazing!" Cloverpaw finished with stars in her eyes. "I'm excited to learn more!"

"Brilliant!" Hawkleaf purred. "Now that you've seen that, try to do what Fawncliff did. Use your smaller build to your advantage."

Nodding, Cloverpaw crouched down, looking for an entry point. Before she could find one, Hawkleaf sprang towards her. Panicking, Cloverpaw dodged the same way Hawkleaf did, by rolling onto her back and springing back onto her paws. She tried to brainstorm on how she could impress her mentor, but no ideas came. Hesitantly, she sprang, aiming for her face. Before she reached the older she-cat, she landed onto the ground, making an eruption of dirt beneath her paws. She sprinted over to Hawkleaf and jabbed her in her face. She stopped her fighting stance and began to breathe heavily.
