The next morning, I wake up early to the sounds of birds chirping outside my window. The realization that I'll be attending my father's funeral today weighs heavily on my heart. As I get dressed in a simple black dress, memories of my childhood with Dad resurface, and I find myself reflecting on the love and support he showered upon me.
At the funeral, friends and neighbors gather to pay their respects, their presence a testament to my father's impact on their lives. Amidst the sea of mourners, I spot Ryder, standing tall and somber. I haven't seen him in years, but he seems to have grown into a strong and caring man, just as Mom had mentioned.
After the service, as people start to disperse, Ryder approaches Mom and me, offering his condolences. His presence provides a sense of comfort, and I can see that he's been a pillar of support during this difficult time.
"Seraphina, it's been a long time," he says, his voice warm and filled with compassion.
"Yes, it has," I reply, my voice catching with emotion. "Thank you for being here for Mom and for helping her."
Ryder smiles softly. "Your mom's been like family to me since I started working on the farm. It's the least I can do."
As the funeral comes to an end, people begin to disperse, leaving behind a sense of emptiness that mirrors the void in my heart. Amidst the crowd, Ryder stands with a quiet strength, his presence unwavering as he supports my family through this difficult time.
Mom clings to my arm, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "Thank you for being here, Seraphina," she says softly, her voice trembling with emotion. "It means the world to me."
I wrap my arms around her, holding her close. "Of course, Mom. We'll get through this together," I reply, my voice choked with tears.
Ryder joins us. "Your father was an incredible man. He taught me so much, not just about horses but about life," he says, his voice filled with reverence.
I nod, grateful for the support he's offered my family during this difficult time. "Thank you, Ryder. It means a lot to know that you were here for us," I say, a genuine smile breaking through my sorrow.
As the sun sets, we return to the farmhouse, the weight of the day's events lingering in the air. I checked my phone getting ready for bed as I see my fiance and manager have sent over a hundrend messages, I sigh as i shut my phone and relish in the sounds of the crickets surroundening me.
