Sometimes parents are who we choose they are. Not who created us. Sometimes, the parents we choose aren't real. They can be animated. Created in your head. Made by some random person behind your computer. Or, they can be people who exist. But we've never met them. We aren't a specific person in their personal life. They're all behind a screen. But for some reason, we're so attached to them. They raised us. They make us feel better when we've had a bad day. Or week, or even life. We're not dependent on our social media. We aren't addicted to our phones. We're dependent on them. We're addicted to the love and comfort that THEY give us. Some of us think of them as our parents. The people we look up to. The people we want to be. They give us the love that some of our REAL parents failed to.
It's almost the same with friends. Friends we don't know in real life, but talk to everyday. They save us. Fill a certain kind of void in our soul. All through a screen. Parents think these friends are "evil" and sometimes even try to take them away from us. All because they're guilty. Guilty that people behind our phone screens do a better job at taking care of us than they do. We're claimed to be "addicted" to our screens. We aren't addicted to the internet. We're addicted to the love and comfort it gives. The love and comfort we aren't given in reality.
Just a side note to say thank you to some of the people who have saved me. All behind a screen. Sometimes just by talking to me. A single interaction. Or people I have never talked to.
