Amelia's POV.

"Thank you, Benedict." I said as he left me at my door. "Truly." He had put his shirt back on , but it was clinging to his wet body. And I was refraining myself from looking down at his torso too much. And if that wasn't enough, his wet hair dripped over his forehead, slightly covering one of his eyes.

"My pleasure." He spoke in a low voice, probably to not wake anyone given that it was now the middle of the night. "I'll see you soon, hm?"

"Yes." I smiled brightly up at him. "Goodnight."

"Sweet dreams." I heard behind me as I opened the door to my estate, quickly closing it behind me with a smile on my face.

This had turned out to be such a wonderful day, it almost made me forget about all the problems.

"Amelia?" I heard a voice coming from my right. I turned in a panic at the sudden voice coming from the dining room at 1 a.m. But my heartbeat slowed down at the sight of my mother sitting by herself. "What are you doing home so late? I thought you were already in bed."

I tried to find the best way to explain myself. "Just went out to have a nice day with a friend."

"Oh, you made friends already?" She smiled lightly. I nodded with a smile of my own. "That's great, honey."

"What are you doing?" I asked her as I entered the dining room.

"Oh, just going over some mail. Letters from your father, from your aunt Ruby, and just some business letters and documents. Nothing you want to bother yourself with-" She spoke and spoke until she stood up and headed for me, her hand finding my shoulder, which is when she stopped talking. "Wha-?" She removed her hand from my shoulder and looked down at her palm. And then she took her hand again, grabbing the satin of my dress and pulling it into her hands. "Amelia, you're soaked." She realised, running her hands over my hair, face and dress.

"It was raining." I was surprised at how fast I came up with a lie. But my worries were that she wouldn't believe it.

She stared at me blankly for a second or two before nodding. "Oh. I must've not noticed." She said as she was about to exit the dining room. "Go to bed, Amelia. We have an invitation for tea tomorrow, so we have to wake up early."

"Tea? Where?" I questioned.

"The Bridgertons right across the street."

I felt butterflies flutter in my stomach at the mention of the name and I immediately drew in a breath. Looks like I'd see Benedict sooner than I thought.

"Okay." We stood in front of the door of the Bridgerton estate, Mama nervously going over every single one of her daughters, making sure no one had a wrinkled dress, or a strand of hair out of place.

Normally, Papa would be the one to say greetings, to make sure we made a good impression. He had the words already programmed into his brain. And he was good at lying. We obviously were not the happy family that he claimed us to be.
