A/N: it's very small ik but it's 4 am so excuse me.
The next morning I woke up and started preparing my self for breakfast. As I was putting on some jewelery I heard a knock on my door.
"Come in"
As the door opened I looked and saw my brother who to another person would have been unrecognizable, dressed like a girl. But I knew him all too well.
"Good morning, sister" he finally spoke with a soft smile after he closed the door.
"Morning, brother" I returned the smile.
"Enjoying womenhood?" I teased him.
"It's not that dreadful, I must admit" we giggled , he twinkled around with his dress. He then became quite serious and sat on the wooden chair next to my window.
"But you know.. Whispers have started going around" Achilles pointed out. It was true, people at court here in Skyros have started to talk, about the resemblance between the supposed lady Pyrrha and me.
"Let them talk." I said, meeting his gaze. "They can't prove anything" he stared at she view outside.
"Where's Patroclus?" I asked
"Still sleeping" he replied, the mention of his lover brought a smile to his face.
"When on earth are we going to leave this wretched place?" he asked with impatience, this palace brought him mysery and so it did to me. If I could I would return to Pthia right at that moment, Pelion maybe would be much preferred.
"Hopefully soon" I now sat on my bed, I let out a sigh. Achilles stared again out the window, looking at the sea that we hoped would soon bring us home.
"Achilles there is something I believe we should discuss" I started unsure if I should start that subject.
Hw turned his gaze to me. "If it's about the war...." he spoke with a very obvious unwillingness to talk about that subject.
"No, it does not have to do this the war. It is to do with...your... well wife"
"What about her?"
"I know I probably don't have the right to judge but I believe that it is quite unfair how you treated her. I understand that what happened was unexpected.. For the both you" I continued as he listened attendively although it was quite obvious that he didn't agree with what I was saying.
"You could have at least talked to her, say you are sorry, maybe comfort her through her pain"
He stood up
"Comfort her? Sister, you don't seem to realize that this affair was as painful for me as it was for her. I prayed every day that we wouldn't come to this but it seems the gods had other plans. And to begin with, I never wanted to marry her anyway. The only reason I agreed to this was because our mother had promised me that she would reveal my location to you and Patroclus. But as he informed me, it was our father that told you. All I want is to forget this mess." There was hurt and a hint of anger in his eyes.
I got up too.
" May I remind you brother that you are partly responsible for this mess. And even though you can chose to put it all behind you, thar poor girl had no choice. She will have to be secluded until she gives birth to a child she won't even raise" My nostrils slightly flared.
"What?" he asked, realized I hadn't told him
We sat back down.
"Mother visited me a few days ago, she talked to me about the child. She sais it's a boy and that she wishes to raise it. She told me to tell you so that you'll inform the king."
"What is your opinion on this?" he asked me calmly, most men didn't care about the opinions of the women in their lives. He had always asked for mine, basically since we met. I didnt know if it was because I was "Different" or because I was his sister or maybe because perhaps my brother valued me as a person. But he also asked because I was raised by our mother.
"Well it does it matter? There is no way anyone can oppose our mother... Not even me. Once she has something in mind...It can hardly ever be changed." he looked down, obviously uncomfortable by the topic. About his son, I wondered how Achilles might have felt about him. Even after all those years. I never knew if he actually even thought about him at all.
A/N: reminder this book is written from older Alcippe's perspective who is reminiscing on her life.
We would have said more probably. He might have apologized about the way he treated Deidameia or change the subject I don't know and I never will. because on that moment we hears a knock on the door.
"Do come in" Patroclus entered my room.
"Morning, you two" he said. Smiling.
"Should we head for breakfast?"
And so we all left. And so Achilles who just before we heard Patroclus' knock on the door had just opened his mouth never actually shared with me his thoughts at that Patricular moment
