Is it the beginning of the end ?

[ Tuesday, September 13th/ 5:12pm ]

Thomas finally drops me off at home and I rush to the front door so the neighbors don't see me in my underwear. But something's different from usual: the lights inside are on. I quickly open the door and conclude that my parents are back from their trip. As soon as I see them in the distance, I throw myself into my mother's arms and she crushes me against her chest.

_ Oh sweetheart, I've missed you so much! What happened to your pants? she says, looking me up and down with a questioning look.

_ I tore them accidentally earlier, no I wouldn't tell her the truth. How was your trip?

_ Boring and exhausting! Would you like me to make you something to eat? And put on some pants, you'll catch a cold.

_ No, I'm fine, thanks, Mom, but you should get some rest, you look exhausted.

_ Yes, you're right, I'm dying to lie down on my bed. See you soon, my angel. She kisses my forehead and goes up to her room to join my father, who I'm sure is already asleep.

I go up to my room as well, where Koda is lying on my bed. I put on the first jogging suit I see and start looking for motivation to do my philosophy essay that the teacher had given us earlier. "Does misfortune promote self-knowledge?" I don't know and I don't give a damn. I turn on my computer and start looking at some stuff on the internet, copy and paste it onto a Word page and print it out. That shit took me 25 minutes! Plus the teacher is so naive he'll think I did it, and he doesn't have internet so he can't check, which is pretty cool. I put my essay in my bag and lie down next to Koda. I didn't know it was so possible to love a dog that much, but I feel like he's always been there even though I've only had him for 2 years. I'd knocked him over one evening when it was raining heavily, and I took him straight to the vet, but I couldn't abandon him. So I came to see him every day after school so I could follow his recovery, and once his broken leg was healed, the vet asked me if I wanted to adopt him since nobody had come to claim him, and so I did. On the other hand, my parents weren't so keen on the idea of having such a big dog in the house, but with 2 or 3 good arguments they finally gave in, much to my delight.

[ Wednesday, September 14th/ 4:16am ]

Without realizing it, I fell asleep next to Koda, who hasn't moved a muscle. So I decide to get up, because I won't be able to sleep now and I've got class this morning, so I might as well start getting ready. I head for the bathroom to take off my clothes from the night before and take a shower. My parents are probably still asleep so I try to make as little noise as possible, which is a real failure as I've just dropped the hairdryer on the floor and it's just shattered on the floor with a deafening noise. As usual, I put on the first clothes I see without asking too many questions, and decide to apply a little make-up. I put on a little concealer to hide the misery and a little mascara. I don't know how to apply make-up, so I prefer not to try anything extravagant or too technical. I don't have the make-up to do much more anyway.

I end up going down to the kitchen for breakfast, open the cupboard in search of cereal and as I pull out the packet, a pan falls to the floor, so discretion is definitely not my thing this morning. It must be the fact that I'm waking up so early that's throwing me off.

_ Lola? Is that you? I hear my father coming into the kitchen.

_ Yes, Dad, sorry to woke you up...

_ It's all right, don't worry, he walks over to me and puts his arms around me. At least you didn't wake your mother with your clumsiness.
