Lennon's POV:
A loud thud happened, and I see Tesh turn around. I had punched her sickening Ex in the face.
''Don't touch her again, bastard'' I say, in a low and protective tone. As I finish that sentence, I hear Mrs Abgil behind me.
''Lennon Hawthorn, Headteacher's office now."
''Lennon, You CANNOT go around sucker-punching people square in the face. That isn't what we do here, at Truham School. Even if there was a good reason'' Mr Amos states, with some compassion coating his voice. He then continues. ''You're not a kid who often resorts to violence, I would've expected you to have done better. Why'd you do it?"
''He deserved it.'' I bluntly explain.
"Lennon, you know we're going to have to suspend you for this and that'll be on your permanent record. It's going to be hard to get into colleges with a suspension on your record. This has a huge impact on your future, you shouldn't have risked that to punch Callum, over what? Some girl?"
When Mr. Amos said that line, I couldn't help but feel my jaw clench and my glance my eyes down. I quietly and angrily say "Tesha isn't just 'some girl' & I'd risk my future to protect her all over again, Sir, so yes it was worth punching him. I don't care about some suspension.''
The next day
I sit in my bed, pondering every event that's happened in the last 24 hours. However, there's one thing that couldn't get off my mind. Tesha. Why'd I care about her so much? Why did I punch him in the face for her? What's happening? I've always cared for her, of course, I have, she's my best friend but when I saw Callum touching her I couldn't help but get this overwhelming need to make people believe that they can't touch her. I wanted people to think that she's mine, I wanted people to think we were something. Even though we're not.
I decided to get out of my bed and go downstairs to get something to eat. My Mum was home, she worked from home because she worked in PayRoll.
''Hey, honey. Are you okay? How're you finding suspension?" You'd better be doing the work you've been set."
''Yes, Mum, I'm doing the work I've been set. But, my mind's distracted, with something else."
''What is it?'' My mother conceringly questions.
''Nothing, bad, Mum, I'm just thinking about Tesh. She's replaying in my mind like a broken record. It's like I can't seem to get her out of my mind. I don't know what happened, that Thursday, I don't know why I felt the need to punch Callum. I just didn't want anyone else to think they could have her. I wanted people to think she was mine."
My Mum stared at me blankly, her expression was mixed with shock and a look of awe. She was speechless. Was what I saying unnatural, was I weird?
Tesha's POV:
The school was boring without Lennon, we hung out in school during breaks and lunch. I did have other friends but he was the light of the conversations. He always made people laugh, smile & feel included. When he wasn't there, I felt like I was an outcast in my friend group.
''Tesh!'' ''Tesha!'' My friend, Luna, shouted.
''Huh, yes?'' I say, confused.
Before Luna could say what she needed to say to me, the bell went for our next lesson. Back to being lonely & roaming the halls again.
