My name is Vannah. I am a 17 year old Black African American. Growing up, I wasn't the best looking kid. I always thought I looked pretty weird. Nothing was wrong with me though. I was perfectly healthy. The only thing that was holding me back was my skin. I had terrible eczema. It started showing up when I was around 4.
Before attending preschool every morning, I had to take daily trips to the doctor but at that age I had no idea what was happening to me. At 4 years old, I found my hidden talent, singing. It was my passion and my older sister especially encouraged me to sing. My mom would send videos to her friends of me singing songs. Soon, I moved on from preschool with my best friend, Larissa and attended the Hill Heights Primary School. I hid behind my mother on the first day because I was a really shy person. "You will be just fine and the teachers will like you. You better behave," my mother said. I was kinda bummed wince my best friend was not in some of my classes but we stuck together like glue either way.
I would ace every single class, except for math. Math wasn't really my thing and my teachers also thought so too. My teacher, Ms. Kimbers put me into a program that would help me develop some math skills before I moved onto the next grade. I felt really left out since most my classmates knew math better than me.
I soon made a few friends throughout my primary school days then moved onto elementary school with flying colors. My math skills were still low but I learned new things in my math classes. I realized I was a slow learner in math. Whenever the teacher would call me to say an answer and I'd get it wrong, I felt embarrassed. My teacher, Ms. Rubarb was my teacher that didn't care about what the Students in class did. I would get sexually harassed in class by guys while my teacher just watched and said nothing.
Soon I was in middle school. Middle School flew by really fast. I had an amazing friend circle and amazing teachers but still had a very low IQ in math. At least I knew a lot by now. I try paying attention but I still don't see why I cannot understand math. I would get into trouble if I failed my math class. I just wished my parents could see and understand why I wasn't good in mathematics. I had always dreamt of going to high school. I watched high school movies to get the experiences. Romance, action, people...it was almost time. I then soon graduated Middle School and Went into High school.
