Prologue

I sat at my dining table and poured my third glass of red wine. I really shouldn't drink so much I told myself, I was doing this every day now. But what was I supposed to do? My life was ruined. I had lost my friends, my job, my reputation, even my car. In fact I was lucky I hadn't ended up in jail.

How had everything gone so horribly wrong? Just a few months ago I had been on top of the world, I had never been happier. How quickly things can turn around, and it was all my own fault. Why did I have to rush blindly into something without even thinking what I was doing? As the saying goes when something appears to be too good to be true, it usually is.

I finished my drink and poured another one. The last of the wine from the bottle filled the glass to the rim. This would be my last drink until I could go to the liquor mart tomorrow.

I leaned back in the chair, and as I took a long sip of the soothing red liquid my mind wandered back five months in time. It seemed an eternity ago, but that's when it all started.
