Hayden jumped at the unexpected voice, screaming and clutching her heart as gold sparked around her. She took a deep breathe and mentally prepared herself, she was still very sore from the running and didn't need someone else to run from.
She turned to face the stranger, giving them an incredulous look which quickly drained to a look of pure shock. Standing in front of her was a boy, younger than herself, he stood over her 5'7 frame, peering down at her in confusion. His head was tilted and with furrowed eyebrows he assessed the women infant of him. Paying close attention to the sparks dancing around her head and hands.
Hayden watched as the boy leaned against one of the many trees around them, crossing his arms and tilting his head down.
'I can already tell he's gonna be a cocky little thing.' Hayden deadpanned, looking the boy up and down with not so subtle judgment.
"Howp do you have magic?" The boy questioned, Hayden could now hear his strong accent. She wouldn't admit it now, but she was always a sucker for an accent, and British accents always had a way with her.
The boy in front of her seemed to be getting annoyed at being ignored and spoke up again.
"Perhaps you didn't hear me, I asked How. Do. You. Have. Powers?" he emphasised every word in his question. Jumping off the rock Hayden had failed to notice he was standing on and took slow steps towards her.
Hayden took two steps back from the boy, not liking his attitude at all.
"This kid never heard the words 'Respect your elders?'" She decided to answer his question, although reluctantly.
"Well you see, strange boy I met in the middle of the jungle, I was bitten by a radioactive spider in a lab that gave me magical powers, which I was never going to use until my uncle died and told me to be a superhero. Does that answer your question?" Hayden smiled at him.
The boy disappeared from her sight and Hayden breathed a sigh of relief and turned to walk away only to yell when the boy appeared in front of her again, way too close for her liking. Immediately on reflex, Hayden sent a wave of power to get him away from her. She just hadn't realised how strong the wave was and what was meant to be a simple push ended up sending the teleporting boy into a tree.
He hit the tree hard and fell to the floor in a pile. Hayden widened her eyes and put her hands on her head.
"Holy shit I killed him! Why is it so easy to kill people with magic?" Hayden remained where she was, staring at the boy on the floor. The Boy Scouts patrolling the area had properly heard this interaction and were making their way towards her now, but all Hayden could do was freak out to herself.
At the sound of a horn Hayden snapped back to reality, the boy had still not moved and the horn was getting louder. Hayden bit her lip in thought before shaking her head and turning away from the body on the floor.
'If he's dead, then I need to leave, but if he's still alive I'll be a huge dick for running away.' The sound of yelling had registered in Haydens ears, ending her mental debate.
'Well, I'd prefer to be a dick then dead, sorry kid.' Hayden spared the heap of mass no glance as she booked it further into the jungle. Only moments later, a massive group of boys emerged into the clearing. The blonde in the hood leading them, his eyes trained on the boy lying on the floor. He stalked towards him, kicking away any leaves that fell onto his shoes. He nudged the boy with his foot and grunted out a sentence.
"Pan...you alive?" He nudged the body again and this time a hand grabbed the bottom of his shoe. He flinched and looked down, staring into the green eyes of apparently 'Pan'.
