Morgana's PIV

When we got to Chicago, they scheduled surgery for early the next morning.

I stayed the night in the hospital sleeping on the uncomfortable couch, but I didn't complain. I knew spending one night on the hospital couch isn't anything compared to what Mal's going through.

Her parent's flight got delayed due to storms, and they wouldn't make it in time for her to go under. I kept checking the weather every time I woke up in the middle of the night, but it seemed that the storms would persist through the late morning and into the afternoon.

The doctors came in at an ungodly hour for prep, and I got too nervous to do anyting except stand in the corner.

"Are my mom and dad here yet?" Mal asked when she doctors woke her up.

"I don't know." One of the doctors said.

"Ask Morgana."

"They're not." I said quietly, staring at the floor. "They've had storm delays all night. I have no idea how long until they get here."

"Oh." She said sadly.

"Your mom said to call before you go under, so you will get to talk to them before though."

"That's good."

They continued with prep, and when it was time to put her under, she'd finished talking to her parents. I got to talk to her for a quick minute before they wheeled her off into the operating room.

"Mal, I'm so sorry this had to happen to you." I said, crouching to her level.

"Morgana, these things happen. It's alright. It's gonna hurt for a really long time, but I'll be back before you know it." She grabbed my hand. \

"But you're gonna miss the World Cup." The tears stung my eyes and clouded my vision, but I could tell from her voice that she was tearing up as well.

"I know."

"I'm sorry."

"Everything in time, Morgana. Everything, in time."

I had no clue what she meant, but I nodded.

"I love you."

"I love you more."

I kissed her cheek before they took her away, and I walked myself to the waiting room.

----------

I got myself a cup of coffee while I waited, but since I hate coffee it was more like 5 packs of sugar and creamer in liquid. I stared at the floor, checked my phone,n stared at the floor again. It was only a 1-2 hour surgery, but it felt like 12.

I was the only lonely one in the waiting room, everyone else had someone they were sitting with and talking to. I was alone in the corner.

Hatchy was the first on the team to text me.

Hey Morg, just wanted to check in on you and see how everything's going. Let me know when Mal is out of surgery and call me if you need anything. Stay tough for Mal. Love you sis.

My finger hovered over the call button for a few seconds before clicking it. I stepped away from the other people and put the phone to my ear, waiting for her to pick up.

She didn't.

I sat back down before getting another text from her, but I didn't feel like looking. Then I got a call, so I picked up.

"Sorry, I was ordering my food. Everything okay?"

"Yeah." I said. "It's just kinda lonely. She should be done any minute but who knows how long it will take her to wake up."
