Things couldn't get any worse for Maka Albarn. Soul was bleeding out on the floor and the crazy teen approaching the pair didn't show any signs of letting up.

"I told you..." The teen said, gray eyes swirling with chaos. "I told you what would happen..." Maka gave a yell, and threw a wild punch, oping to at least buy Soul more time to get out of there, but was quickly blocked by a shield of black blood.

Maka was thrown back a few feet in front of Soul, landing shakily on her feet.

Maka ignored the soft creaking of ancient wood. Some dust fell on her shoulder, and she swore she heard hushed voices from above once more.

Perhaps it was one of those guardians Maka read about while Soul laughed at the title.

It turned out to be a person... Or maybe three.

"Ryan!  Roku!  Transform Now!"  A source of the mysterious voice was found when a young girl leaped from her spot in the rafters of the old church.

Maka scuttled back, until she had hit Soul's legs, as the unknown female landed in a well-balanced crouch in front of the the pair.  The green-eyed girl watched in astonishment as the other teen began attacking the Crona while wielding identical katanas in both hands.

A grunt of pain from behind brought to her alarming reality. Soul's clothes were drenched in blood, his eyes rolled back into his head, and his words were illegible. Maka struggled to plan her next steps, Soul's injury was too severe and the amount of blood had become overwhelming. Instead, she took her partner in her arms, pressing her one hand over his wound in an attempt to slow the flow of blood.

"Shit!"  A shout from the stranger caused Maka to look up from the boy in her arms, to the other teen clutching her stomach as if she was in great pain.

"I told you," Crona mumbled as they shuffled towards the wounded girl, "I told the other one the same thing."  They raised the sword for the final blow and their arms swung downwards.

     Fast.

Maka buried her head into Soul's hair and squeezed her eyes shut. The last thing she needed was to see another mentally scarring moment of disembowelment. Thankfully, she didn't.

     CRACK!

"Wha-"  The sturdy doors to the church was forced open by a silver haired man, also known as Professor Stein....
