I got up and packed my bag with my skates and went downstairs to put some snacks in as well. My dad was on the phone when I got downstairs. I let him know I was ready to head out and that I was leaving to go to Hector's.

When I showed up to Hector's door I knocked and he almost immediately opened the door.

"Damn, were you waiting for me?" I laughed a bit.

"Yes, I'm very excited and very prepared. I'm ready to go. Let's get in the car."

He heads out the door in front of me and we hop in his sudan.

"Why'd you want me up early?"

He put his keys in the ignition and started the car. "Sight seeing," he said with a smug look.

"Really now? Sights like what? Museums? Parks?"

"Sights maybe like a drag race, maybe some bars."

"Bars? Nigga, you know I only have a permit. You better not start drinking on me."

"Nah, I'm just meeting up with Omar and Patrick. I'm kind of required to hangout with them this weekend. They said I could bring someone along. I should have told you last night."

"Eh, it's good. I know how you are about last minute things." I took a second to mull over what he'd told me. "Hm, so you and Omar?"

"Aaahh," he panicked. Which isn't a smart thing to make the driver do. He stabilized himself a bit. "We've moved on from it. I've moved on from it."

"I'd hope so, I don't want you in a sticky situation like that ever again."

"Yeah, he threatened to tell my dad that I initiated it. Fuckin hypocrite," he whispered the last part under his breath.

"So you're just gonna go see him today and act like he never did or said those things?"

"Yes." Without hesitation.

I let out a huge sigh ,"Holy shit Hector. Why the hell are you doing this to yourself?"

"Hanging out with them is the only way to please my dad." He began to stutter, "if I have any more incidents or I'm ratted out I'm up shit's creek."

"Hector. Pull over." We were in a shopping district so he did as I suggested and parked in the back of a plaza. When he put the car in park, I turned to him. "It's ok, breathe man." I speak to him calm and smooth while holding his hands. "You do not have to prove anything to your dad. You don't even have to see him. You have control over who's custody you're in. You don't have to act so cool and mighty. Be yourself man."
