"Say..." Kou asked hesitantly, his fingers brushing against Mitsuba's palm and tracing the lines on his hands gently. "What would happen if I became a supernatural?" Mitsuba looked at him in shock and huffed. "Well, you'd be stuck wandering around brainlessly unless you got some sort of temporary meaning- not a lot would change there- and then you'd grow a bit more powerful and if you ate a school mystery , you'd become a school mystery yourself." Mitsuba explained.
Kou sighed and murmured, "Thanks.. there's something else I wanted to talk about too.." "Hm?" Mitsuba asked, grasping Kou's hand and squeezing it. His magenta eyes seemed distant. "What is this?" Kou asked and lifted his shirt. There was a black seal on his back, with white lettering on it.
Mitsuba turned his head to look at the seal and it read, '手寸'. It was a Yorishiro. He gasped slightly, and his eyes dimmed. "It feels like a sticker, but it only bleeds if I try to pull it off. I can't read it from here. What's it say?" "You wanted to become a supernatural, yes?" "Yeah, I guess so... Wait- what's wrong?!" "Minamoto-kun, you already kind of are. You're a Yorishiro, so you're not quite living, but you're not quite dead either. It's only a matter of time though, before you truly become a full supernatural." "You're joking, right Mitsuba?"
Mitsuba's eyes traveled to Kou's face, and the glint of light that used to flicker in Kou's ocean blue irises was now gone. He almost had a look of devastation painted on his expression. Mitsuba embraced him tightly and whispered in the blonde's ear, "I am so sorry."
Mitsuba couldn't say it. Kou couldn't know, know that he was in fact the Yorishiro of the school mystery who had him in his arms. It'd be too cruel, and Mitsuba didn't feel like he'd be okay if Kou hated him.
"Mitsuba, what's wrong with being a Yorishiro? Everything is going to be okay, right? Why are you sorry? Can you not interact with me as a Yorishiro or something?" Poor Kou, he's probably so confused, Mitsuba thought. "No, I can, but you don't deserve this. You shouldn't be chained to a school mystery." He said, sounding depressingly grim.
Kou's arms reached up to touch Mitsuba's shoulder blades, but Mitsuba let him go. He let out a long sigh and sat back against the wall of his boundary. "This world is crammed with cruelty." He said, exasperated sounding. Kou burst out laughing, "Since when did you sound so poetic and emo? Haha!" He snorted, laughing and crying at the same time. Mitsuba rolled his eyes, "What's so funny about it, traffic earring?"
Kou's laughter began to die out and and he wiped the tears falling from his eyes. "Ahh that was a good laugh. And it was totally funny!" Mitsuba blushed in embarrassment and stuck his tongue out at Kou, "No! It wasn't!" "Haha! Ever so childish, aren't ya?" Kou grinned, baring his long canines. "M' not childish." He mumbled, pouting.
Kou leaned against Mitsuba's shoulder and began to trace the lines on his palms again, he asked, "So? Who's Yorishiro am I? No way in hell am I the clock keeper's, I don't think I'm yours since you don't like me, uhhmm.." That's not remotely true. "I don't think I'm Hanako's either since he liked Nene-senpai more than me. And everyone else, I think we've destroyed their Yorishiros. Is there some secret No.8 or something?" "Pfft- No. And even if there was, it would be a secret, so I wouldn't tell you." Kou hummed at the answer and closed his eyes.
"You really want to know?" "It's kind of my right. I think. I was never taught too much about this kind of thing, and pretty much was only taught how to kill supernaturals and stuff." "Brute." Mitsuba chuckled, listening to Kou scoff and watch him slap his hand. "Why do you keep dodging the subject?" Kou asked dangerously. "Well, because even though you have a right to know, I'm scared to tell you!" "Just tell me!" "Fuck-! Okay, fine. You're mine, okay? I didn't want you to hate me, but that's it."
Kou stopped tracing Mitsuba's hand, and looked up and him. His eyebrows furrowed and he looked back down at the ground. He wasn't sure what to feel.
"I hate you."
"Wha- what?" Mitsuba felt bewildered, and also a twinge of sadness knotted his stomach. Kou interlocked their fingers and squeezed Mitsuba's hand. "Is that what you want to hear? Is that what you want me to say? Damn masochist. I don't care about this, okay? Well, that's actually a bad way of putting it. I'm not sure how to feel about the seal belonging to you, but I still care about you. I don't see you any different...
"You're still sassy, girly, sarcastic, selfish, your voice is annoying, you get all emo randomly, and you're only fake-nice in my eyes, but I still like you." Kou sat up fully and began to toy with Mitsuba's tied back hair. The hair-tie became undone, and the pink locks fell just below Mitsuba's chin, warming his scarred neck.
Mitsuba held Kou's hand and moved it to his scarf, giving them both a sense of familiarity. "You're so weird, Minamoto-kun." He chuckled.
"Guess I am!" Kou laughed with Mitsuba.
