"Here, I'll grab that for you." Malcom offers as I struggle with a box about the same height I am, which generally wouldn't be that tall to a significant number of people, but guys I'm only 5'4 and the box is definitely winning right now. I shoot him a sheepish smile and look from him, back to that box stuck in place infront of me.
"Ya know, yeah. Yeah that would be nice." I mumble awkwardly. He stares at me blankly before grabbing the box, lifting it with little to no effort. My jaw drops and I accidentally let out a scoff. His head whips around.
"Excuse me?"
My face turns a deep shade of red before turning around and retreating up the stairs to my room. What was that?!? Seriously, get it together Lex!
I face palm myself and groan, sliding down the side of my bed slowly until I'm sprawled out on the floor in a full mental cringe episode.I let out another groan before picking myself up so I'm sitting upright, staring at the emptiness of my room. It's kind of depressing how my whole life can fit in just a few boxes, now that I think about it. I let out a sigh before getting up and grabbing the rest of my belongings, doing a few last checks around my room to make sure nothing important is left behind. When I've found nothing else, I take a deep breath and head back downstairs where I see my family and Malcom's conversing in the kitchen and Malcom outside hauling the rest of my stuff into a moving van. I head over to him and hand him the last few items I've scavenged from my room. Without saying a word to him, I head back inside to where our parents stand, I over hear them chatting about something in low voices when I enter the room, so I clear my throat to make my presence known to the room.
"Hey, I think we're all ready to go." I thumb the hem of my shirt nervously. My mom walks over to me and pulls me into a deep hug and whispers in my ear, "You got this honey, you be strong for me." and places a kiss on the hop of my head. I give her a forced, weak smile. I turn to my father, who has already excused himself from the room entirely, as I see him heading back into his study. I feel a twinge of pain scratch at my heart. I take a deep breath in and turn away.
Dick.
I turn to Mrs and Mr.Hayes. "Shall we get going my dear?" Mrs. Hayes asks, taking my hand in hers. I give her a smile. "Yeah, I think so."
—————————The car ride to the Orlando Airport was pretty quiet, except for Malcom's parents asking me about my interests and so what. The plane ride went the same exact way. Malcom didn't even look in my direction the whole time, which I found extremely weird because I thought we were getting along pretty well at the beach a few days ago. But since then we've gotten absolutely nowhere. This man is so hot and cold already, and I've only known him for a few days. I wonder how this'll play out.
I feel a soft tap on my shoulder and let out a loud groan, turning the opposite way of the blurry figure my sleepy eyes pick up in-front of me. I hear someone clear their throat, causing me to open my eyes and yawn.
"We're here." Malcom whispers in my ear, his husky voice sending shivers down my spine.
"Yeah, I can tell." I muttered under my breath, trying to keep my face down to hide my flushed cheeks as I grab my luggage.
"I'll help you with that." He takes a couple bags out of my hands and leads me to two cars parked outside the plane. Why would we need two? It's as if Mr.Hayes read my thoughts because he comes over to me with a warm smile and says, "I'm not sure if we had mentioned to you before, but you and Marcus will have your own house! It's located about 5-10 minutes away from ours, so if you ever need anything, don't be afraid to shoot either one of us a call." He finishes, motioning towards himself and Mrs.Hayes, who stands by the car to my left, shooting me a friendly wave. I give her a smile and shoot her a wave back. "Thank you guys so much, I really appreciate everything so much." I say, but mentally I'm exploding. Marcus and I. 1 house. Alone. How is this gonna go? How am I even going to SURVIVE? I'm officially fucked.
Mr.Hayes and I head over to the car on the right, continuing our conversation, Malcom trailing behind us. We set all of my belongings in the trunk before getting in the car, and exchanging goodbyes with Mr. And Mrs.Hayes before taking off to our new home. Correction, my new home.
