Rose woke up, dressed in some house frocks, and decided to make breakfast for herself. She was mixing some pancake batter when she saw her governess come into the kitchen looking frantic. "The princess is missing! You! You there, girl! Have you seen the princess?" She asked worriedly. Rose rolled her eyes. "Good morning, Prudence." Rose said. "Oh, I thought you...But those awful clothes! Well, I...I didn't recognize you, Your Highness." Prudence said as she curtsied to Rose. "Allow me to introduce your ladies-in-waiting, Ella and Daisy." She said as the two women curtsied to Rose. Ella was blue-eyed, with blonde hair, and a tall skinny woman wearing blue. Daisy was also a blue-eyed woman, but she was a bit plumper, had brown hair, and wore a magenta dress.

"Please to meet you. You're just in time for breakfast." Rose said happily. "Breakfast? Ooh, with toast and jam?" Daisy asked excitedly. "Your Highness, a princess never prepares her meals. That is not how things are done." Prudence explained. "There are rules about breakfast?" Rose asked, confused. "Of course, there are rules, Your Highness. But it's certainly not your fault that you don't know the traditions of the castle. That's what your grandparents expect me to teach you." Prudence explained. "I'm sure I can learn it in no time." Rose said, putting the bowl down. "Mm-hmm, come along. There's no time to dally. Just do as I say, and everything will be fine." Prudence said as she rushed the princess back to her room.

"Your grandparents would be horrified to find the hostess of the coronation ball dressed like a scullery maid! A princess must be attired like royalty

"Your grandparents would be horrified to find the hostess of the coronation ball dressed like a scullery maid! A princess must be attired like royalty." She said as Ella and Daisy dressed Rose in a complicated pink dress. "Do I have to wear this all the time?" Rose asked as she was presented with her shoes. "Oh, of course not, Your Highness. You'll need something much more formal for dinner." Ella laughed. "Couldn't I wear one of my dresses?" Rose asked as she slipped into her shoes. "Very amusing, Your Highness, but it isn't done." Prudence said. They entered a room with the curtains closed. "It's such a beautiful day. Why don't we open the curtains?" Rose asked as she began to open the curtains. "No, no, no! These curtains are never opened." Prudence said quickly as she closed the curtains. "And certainly not by a princess." Ella added sternly. "It most definitely isn't done." Prudence said.

Rose was walking by the long dining table. "Dukes and viscounts sit nearest the royal family unless a marquis is present." Ella explained. "Wouldn't it be nice if people could just sit wherever they like?" Rose asked Ella. "No. You must never seat a duke above a marquis or below a baron." Ella explained. "Which color is correct, Your Highness? Cream or ecru?" Daisy asked as Rose was presented with two color swatches. "Um, e-e-ecru?" Rose asked unsurely. "Goodness, no. Cream." Prudence corrected the princess. "But there isn't any difference." Rose said. "Oh, my, so much to learn. So little time." Prudence said as they went into the kitchen. "At the coronation lunch, the menu shall consist of the rarest roast beef, French onion soup, tarragon mashed potatoes, freshly baked baguettes, the finest truffles in the kingdom, and for dessert, Norwegian stewed prunes." She said. "Prunes? For dessert?" Rose asked, surprised. "Your grandfather expects it. It is a tradition that is never broken. Besides, I like them." She said.
