Work Text:
"Hello, Dokja," Joonghyuk brushed the side of his cheek, smiling. It sent shivers down his spine. "did you have your fun? Leaving your husband alone thinking you were dead ."Dokja turned his head to the side; he didn't have the heart to say anything to him. "I'm sorry."
"So you know what you did?" Joonghyuk's words were no longer sugar-coated; his eyes pierced through his soul. He couldn't afford to lie anymore, not if it'd cost his neck.
"Don't worry, Dokja-ya, you're neck isn't what you should be worrying about," He flinched as the other grabbed his legs. "but rather, it's the same legs you used to leave."
Dokja's eyes widened in horror to think that his former husband was going to these lengths to torture him. But, of course, the bastard won't kill him; that's an easy way out.
"Why do you look like I'm going to kill you?" Joonghyuk grabbed his chin and tilted it up; those eyes no longer held any light, completely devoided of life that used to protect those he ruled.
Dokja began to tear up, realising that he was the reason why Joonghyuk became a tyrant. What he wanted to avoid from the very beginning happened because of his mistake. He never read the backstory of why the "Supreme Emperor", Yoo Joonghyuk, became a tyrant.
He was snapped out of his thoughts when Joonghyuk kissed his tears away, "Dokja, I'm not going to hurt you; you're safe with me-"
The dread that he felt earlier rose again. He felt bile coming up his throat but swallowed it down. He forgot; just because he read the novel of this world didn't mean he was entirely omniscient . He wasn't god. He didn't know all.
"-I didn't regress 1864 times to kill you , my dear. I admit it took me too long to figure out what needed to be accomplished. But I would rather give you my soul on a platter than hurt you even after going through this hellhole so many times." Joonghyuk cooed at him and wrapped his arms around him; he didn't know what to do or say.
There is nothing that Dokja could say.
Joonghyuk beamed once he stopped trying to struggle out of his grasp. "Darling, you belong with me , in my arms, where you're safe."
He knew that those words were genuine and the consequences of going along with them. But he couldn't help but want to be by Joonghyuk's side again. They have both been together since childhood. He leaned his head against Joonghyuk's chest, signalling his defeat.
He wanted to be free and have his own choices for once...
Unfortunately, he couldn't see the feral grin Joonghyuk gave him. His dreams of freedom were never to be granted, even after death. Not while he was the husband of Joonghyuk.
Oh well, he can sacrifice his freedom. After all, this was what he wanted in the beginning .
