The first memory Aelisia Parthenai had was of her Father walking out the door of their ramshackle home, claiming he would return a famous adventurer with riches galore. She recalled her Mother kissing his rough cheek, tears streaming down her own. She had wished him safe travels. Then the door had shut with a distinctive creak.

Her next memory was of growing up in hardship. Chopping wood to keep warm, trapping rabbits in the surrounding woods, picking herbs and hoping they wouldn't be poisonous, tending to her Mother who's unknown sickness progressed further each Winter, and practicing her swordsmanship when her Mother fell asleep.

The one break in her monotonous schedule occurred each month, when Aelisia travelled to the local town to sell her rabbit hide. With the meager wage she accrued, she would pocket half, then spend the other half on the Kartha Empire's Tribune paper. Upon returning home, she would sit by her Mother's bedside and read aloud her Father's most recent exploits.

Ranging from defeating a band of Orcs to escorting the Emperor to the neighboring Elven Kingdom of Luyezia for diplomatic talks, her Father amassed a great number of feats over the years. Her Mother listened to her read these stories, always with a soft smile gracing her sunken features.

He had achieved his glory, even being granted the title of Duke and given a size able territory to rule over in the North. Far from their small shack in the Southeastern corner. Not once had he ever returned since closing that door.

On Aelisia's 16th birthday, her Mother succumbed to her illness. Aelisia held a short funeral, praying to the Goddess for her Mother's safe travels to her next incarnation. After the 4 days of mourning had passed, Aelisia gathered the sum she had amassed over the years, just a measly 10 silver coins, along with her now rusted longsword, and she headed towards the nearest city center.

Not only would Aelisia surpass her Father, she swore. She would erase his legacy with her own.
