The weekend started with a flurry of emotions as Jaden packed his bags for a family trip. I watched him move around his apartment, gathering essentials and double-checking his list, his excitement palpable. I wanted to go with him, to be part of his family's reunion, but work obligations tied me down. The life of a celebrity hairstylist/ makeup artist wasn't forgiving, and I had commitments that couldn't be broken.

"You're sure you'll be okay here without me?" Jaden asked, his eyes filled with concern as he zipped up his suitcase. He paused, turning to face me, his hands resting on the luggage.

I forced a smile, trying to mask the bittersweet feeling gnawing at my insides. "I'll be fine, Jaden. Besides, I'll have the puppy to keep me company," I replied, nodding toward the adorable ball of fur curled up on the couch.

He walked over and pulled me into a warm hug, his lips brushing my forehead in a tender kiss. "I hate leaving you behind, baby, but I'll call every day, okay?" His voice was gentle, filled with genuine affection that made my heart ache with conflicting emotions.

"Of course, you will," I murmured against his chest, closing my eyes to savor the moment. Despite my feelings for Jaden, the dreams about Amir lingered in the back of my mind, a constant reminder of the unspoken tension between us.

As Jaden pulled away, his phone buzzed with a message. He glanced at the screen and then back at me, his expression shifting slightly. "Oh, by the way, Amir's staying here too. His place is being renovated, and it's too dusty for him to stay there," he explained, his tone casual.

My heart skipped a beat at the mention of Amir. The man who had been haunting my dreams, making my emotions swirl in a confusing dance of desire and guilt. "Oh, okay. That's fine," I replied, trying to keep my voice steady.

Jaden flashed me a reassuring smile before heading to the door. "I'll miss you," he said, giving me one last kiss.

"I'll miss you too," I whispered, watching as he disappeared down the hallway.

A few hours later, I found myself alone in Jaden's apartment, the silence only broken by the occasional yip from the puppy. I wandered around, trying to distract myself by organizing Jaden's things, but my thoughts kept drifting back to Amir. The memory of our recent encounters and the electric tension that crackled between us was impossible to ignore.

As I was straightening up the living room, the sound of a key turning in the lock broke the stillness. My heart rate quickened, and I turned to see Amir stepping into the apartment, his presence commanding and unnervingly familiar.
