Beach fun with Nalu

This is a one-shot for Infinite_Midnight s competition.

It was a boiling hot day. The sun was blazing in the sky and the heat of it was burning my bare skin a little.

I was waiting on the hot sand at the beach for Natsu, my annoying yet rather attractive best friend who I secretly had liked for years and Happy the cat who is even more annoying.

I was lying down on a pink towel wearing a short pair of blue shorts and a cute purple top.

I had been waiting for what felt like hours. Natsu and Happy were always late so I don't know why I had expected them to get here on time.

I lay there with my eyes shut, thinking about all the times they had been late. It turned out it was a lot.

The heat from the summers sun was starting to burn my skin, I could feel it prickling it as I lay there motionless.

Suddenly all the heat was gone like I had just gone into the shadows. I opened my eyes to just slits.

Natsu was above me blocking out the sun with Happy flying next to his head.

His pink hair was messy and sticking in all directions. He was wearing a pair of blue swimming trunks and that was it apart from his scarf which was wrapped like always around his neck.

His six-pack being shown off in the scorching heat. His nicely toned abs on display.
I was trying so hard not to drool but he looked really hot.

I sighed as I opened my eyes fully and sat up. Natsu smiled at me as he saw that I was awake.

I stood up and smiled at them both. Natsu was about a foot taller than me which I found totally unfair as it meant that I always had to look up when I was talking to me.

"Why are you so late?" I asked them both. Natsu just kept smiling, like he knew something I didn't.

He reached up and took off his scarf. He then wrapped it around my shoulders which were already starting to get very red from the heat.

I was so shocked and confused that I did nothing thing and just stood there staring at him in confusion.

"Wh...wh..what...are..yo..u...doi..ng? I stuttered. I was so confused. Why was he putting his scarf around me. I wasn't a coat rack.

"I didn't want you to get burnt" he explained to me. I just nodded.

Happy was flying around now laughing at how I had reacted. Apparently I was hilarious. Personally I didn't see the humor.

Then Happy stopped and look at me with the wickedest grin I have ever seen.

"Natsu and Lucy" he started to sing. I looked at him in pure horror which made his grin even bigger.

"Sitting in a tree. K..I..S..S..I..N..G. first came the love, second came the marriage, third came the baby in the ..." before he could finish I had swiped him out of the air and covered his mouth with my hand.

Happy was laughing now. He was finding the whole thing very entertaining.

I, on the other hand, was not. I knew that Natsu didn't like me in that way and I understand that but when your friends accidentally rub it in your face that you can never have him it is kind of insulting.

I suddenly remembered Natsu and turned to face him. His cheeks were all red and he seemed pretty embarrassed. I couldn't believe it. This was so embarrassing.

"Natsu?" I said to him as calmly as I could "are you alright?".

He nodded quickly and then looked away for a second. He then started walking towards we until he was next to me looking down.

"Natsu?" I breathed. he was so close. I could feel the heat coming of of him. His scarf was hanging loosely from my shoulders and a brief image of his taking it away at this movement flashed into my mind.

He wouldn't do that, would he?

He leaned in closer so that our noses were touching. I could feel his warm breath on my face. Was he going to kiss me?

He leaned in even more and closed the gap between our lips. It felt like fireworks were being lit.

We both pulled away and smiles at each other. Happy was speechless for once. I was speechless. Natsu laughed and carefully picked me up and places me on his shoulders like a little kid. He then grabs my towel.

"Come on Lucy, Happy, let's go and enjoy the rest of the day" I smiled as I held onto him so that I didn't fall.

This was going to be a fun day.
