Wilbur doesn't consider himself to be an unhappy person. Of course he doesn't – what is there to be unhappy about?

People are going through worse at this very moment. He could be on the verge of death, he could be alone, he could be bleeding out somewhere with no way of getting help. But he's here, and he's still living, and he wants to be. Of course he does. There's nothing to cry about, nothing at all.

Comet cries a lot. Wilbur's not always sure why, but he doesn't mind. She tells him in the end, and even if her reasons don't make sense, he figures they're better reasons than whatever he has. He comforts her, and she promises to do the same. Wilbur doesn't want her to, because it hurts a lot, sometimes.

Maple and Lukas cry, too. They're eleven, so it's okay. Maple bawls, loud enough for the both of them, while Lukas just sniffles. They're upset about being left with him for so long. That cuts deep, too, but it makes sense, because they'd much rather be with their mother. Wilbur doesn't think that's such a good idea, though he doesn't say so. He's seventeen, and that's still too young to know if he's right or not.

The last time Wilbur remembers crying was two years ago, when his dog Sherbert passed away. That was the last time he had a real reason for it – death.

Obviously he doesn't want another reason like that. That would be awful, and Wilbur wouldn't ever wish for something like that. But if something similar just so happened to occur, he thinks it would probably be a bit of a relief.
