"I love you Sophie" a tall, blurred figure whispered sincerely.
In this moment, Sophia had realized it was yet another dream, the kind that always seemed to come to fruition. Through continuous research on these strange dreams, she learned about lucid dreaming and the extent of it yet somehow it still felt beyond that. Although it seemed impossible for someone to confess these feelings so openly and sincerely to her, she felt as if she's already known and connected to this person deeply; she wanted more.
"I love you too K-" She felt herself whirling back into reality, sinking her nails into the moment, desperate to hear his name; desperate to hear his voice. If these dreams were like the rest, she'd eventually get to hear it.
A beeping so loud like a hammer pounding her skull, nearly splitting it in two, forced her eyes open. Her eyelids so heavy as if there were elephants sitting on each one yet an even more crushing weight sitting on her heart. Eventually, she mustered up the energy to look over at the hammering sound, finally conscious enough to realize the source, her alarm. Large, bolded numbers flashed 7:56 AM like the open sign on convenience store windows. A sudden jolt of shock came over her whole body.
"shit..." She had done it again. It was so easy to get lost in her own world, that this was almost an everyday occurrence, at least an occurrence which happened the nights she had dealt with these strange dreams. Swiftly getting out of bed, she grabbed the neatly folded stack of clothes she had picked out in case this scenario played out and brushed her fingers through her long, dark brown hair. Without a rush or care for her tardiness, she carried on with her morning routine. Whilst having little care and being numb to the idea of being late, she had hope in the back of her mind that the first day at her new school would go differently. Because of this, instead of having her typical breakfast of fried eggs and bacon, she settled for a bruised apple sitting in her fruit basket.
With a swift slam of the front door, she was on her way to her first day of her senior year at Daunting Abnormal High School, otherwise known as DAHS. DAHS is known for its wide variety of students. This group can range anywhere from mages and mind readers to human-animal hybrids. And yet there she was, just an average human attending a not so average high school. Of course, there were other humans enrolled as well but it would be hard picking them out from the crowd since many of the students looked average but were quite the opposite.
Sophia let her mind wander as she continued onwards towards DAHS. Just as she thought nothing could interrupt her serene walk, wheels roll against jagged and uneven pavement before she sees a pink haired girl zip past her on a battered skateboard. Judging from the many scrapes and bruises covering her arms and legs, she seemed to be a careless and clumsy individual. The lack of helmet and knee pads further confirmed this theory. Other than her obvious lack of care, she seemed just as ordinary as Sophia.
The pink haired individual raced across the street, without interest or concern for the passing cars.
"This girl is going to get herself kil-" Her thoughts were interrupted by a forceful blow to the ground and the sudden feeling of cold cement on her back. A tall figure shadowed over her while her elbows and palms burned from the friction of the impact, her excuse of a breakfast rolling away and somehow gaining even more bruises than before.
"Lost in our own little world, aren't we?" The figure said, still hovering over her. He extends his arm towards her, offering a helping hand, a tail swishing curiously behind him. Sophia reluctantly takes his hand, shocked by his lack of human ears and possession of what seemed to be cat ears.
"Uh, yeah...." Shaking off her initial perplexion of both the fall and his appearance, "you don't even know." She chuckled. Standing up, she notices a look of hesitation in his yellow-brown eyes but disregards it as soon as the look fades.
