Chapter One~
I hear a knock on my bedroom door. "Your highness? A message has been delivered to you.""Yes, please come in." I reply, braiding my long blond hair in the mirror. The guard quietly opens the door and enters my chambers. After I finish my braid I turn to him. "You can set it down on the coffee table." I continue and smile in his direction.
"Certainly, Princess." The note is placed on my table and he excuses himself out into the hallway, going back to his shift of protecting my bedroom. I walk over to read the note, wondering if it is another mysterious message from an unknown person. I tear the envelope and pull out a piece of paper. In giant writing the number one is written on it. It IS another note. Written in the exact same format as the others, the only difference is that this note is numbered one, and the other six notes are numbered 30 decreasing by five every time. I go over to the trash can and throw the envelope away. I'm not even sure why I've decided to keep these notes. I place the note next to the one that reads five and I notice there is a scribbled sentence on the back. It reads "Be prepared for a surprise."I stand in shock for a second but quickly shake it off. Dad will be wondering where I am. You, Princess Destine, have a job to do.
I exit my dormitory and walk around the palace until I find my father's office. "Dad," I acknowledge him as I walk in but quickly set to work. After working nine hours straight, the king dismisses me from my work and allows me to rest for the night.
"I'll have dinner brought to your room." He replies, not looking up from his work.
"Thank you, father. Good night, I'll see you tomorrow." I say and exit the room. I wander back to my bedroom and slump down on a chair, tired for a long days work. When my dinner arrives, I gladly take it and chow down the meat and mashed potatoes. After I finish, I continue sitting in my chair, staring off into space. I start to think of the newest note I received. "Be prepared for a surprise," I wonder what that means. How could they surprise me when I'm so easily guarded? I decide it's no good worrying about since it's probably a sick prank and rise from my seat and go to the bathroom to wash up. I walk over to the counter and start to take the pins out of my hair. As I set them down, I take a deep breath and look at my tired worn out self in the mirror. Out of the corner of my eye, I suddenly see movement. I whip my head around to get a cloth in my face. The last thing is see is a pair of electric green eyes--very similar to mine--before everything goes black.
