Connor Phillips stormed through the halls of their sanctuary, pushing past all of his rushing men. Some ran by him their faces twisted in fear, others with focus. At times like these good men were hard to come by, no matter how much you were willing to pay. He knew they had been here, he watched as Alex released them. If only they knew what was really going on.
Connor pulled a slim controller out of his pocket and scanned the different buttons until he found the one he wanted. He pressed it and the thick glass door, that cut the hall in half, slid open. He smirked as he approached them. “If only, if only, my children.” He said as he approached them. Their hungry eyes stared at him. “That girl did not know what she was doing when she released you.” He smiled as he stood in front of the fruit of trees. “No she did not.” Connor particularly liked these ones more than the first he had made, they were more obedient then the others, though in the end they all follow orders.
He walked around them and they turned to follow his lead. One by one they entered back into their room and he shut the door firmly behind the last. Connor shoved the remote back into his pocket as he began to walk away. He made halfway down the hall before he was interrupted.
“Sir, the girl also took back their radio…” A young man said as he matched his employers pace.
“Ah, just as I assumed she would. They should be contacting Mallet soon, reroute the messages and make it seem as if they should go back to the base.”
“Seem, Sir? Why do we want them to go back there? I think she knows something is up.”
“Nonsense, she will assume she was lucky. Besides they have nowhere else to go but back to the base.”
“What do you want us to do with the ‘infected’ Sir? They are still at the base awaiting orders.”
“Which ones?” Connor asked as he rounded the corner.
The man stopped to look at his clipboard and scurried to catch back up. “The usual and also the extra ones used to drive off the soldiers.”
Connor nodded. “I see. Bring them back in and kill off the weak.”
“Yes Sir. Now what do you want me to do about the message sent early by Mallet?”
Connor stopped causing the man to run into him. “What message?”
The man stumbled over his words. “He requested an airstrike, Sir.”
“Very well, we shall gather the essentials and move to the next area.” Connor stated as he entered his office.
“What about the others, Sir.” The man asked quietly.
“Leave the infected; the next area has other waiting to be activated. In the meantime activate subject ‘R’ and further the distribution.”
“Subject ‘R’?”
“Must I explain everything to you?” Connor asked as he dropped into his chair. The man remained silent. “Subject ‘R’ is part of the survivor group that keeps getting into our hair. He is also the only one who knows this research as well as I do, though if it wasn’t for me, none of that little ragtag team would still be alive. Anyway, activate subject ‘R’ he will be continuing the progress of the research while we are setting up in the next area.” The man nodded, but remained in his spot. “What is it now?”
“I was just wondering if you could explain this all to me, Sir. I am new here and I don’t understand how this all started.”
Connor smiled. “Sure, why don’t you sit down and I’ll tell you.”
The man took the seat in front of Connor’s desk and leaned forward eagerly.
