Today's the first day of school. New town, new school, new people. I don't know what I'm going to do. I have gone to school with the same people since Kindergarten. I can almost see the way Will's eyes creased in the corners when he laughed. We had to break up through the move. I wouldn't have been able to handle it.

I walk into the registration office and the secretary points to a small office door that has a black plaque on it. In bold, silver letters, the word "PRINCIPAL" is spelled out. I nod and walk towards the door. I knock and a deep, husky voice answers back.

"Come in."

I open the door and slip inside, closing the door behind me. He looks up briefly and nods to a chair. I sit in it and wait for him to talk.

A groan escapes his mouth as he looks up. "How can I help you miss?" I pull a paper out of my bag and slide it across his desk. "I'm a transfer student from Portsmouth, Virginia. My name is Carter, Carter Wentworth."

"Oh yes, Miss Wentworth, I was informed last week you would be transferring. How's Little Rock treating you?" he turns to face me from his papers.

I look at him, a smile playing on my lips. "Well enough. I don't know anybody here though."

He smiles and says "Well hopefully that will change soon." He starts writing on a small slip then pulls a piece of paper from the printer. "Here is your class schedule and a slip to show each of your teachers today." He slides both to me and I collect them.

"Thank you Mr. Collins."

I turn and walk out of the room and into the crowded halls. It's my first day, but for everyone else, it's the middle of the fucking year.
