A Better World

Chapter 2

Everyone started waking up to the sound of cars honking and a lot of people yelling impatiently. There was nothing but about five miles of cars on the road, all leading to one place. Kenny looked down the road aways. He could see a sign that told him that they were exactly where they needed to be, Fort Benning.

"Alright, everyone up were almost to the base," said Kenny. Carley and Clementine woke up after Kenny gave the wake-up call. They rubbed the tiredness out of their eyes, grateful to Kenny that he had kept them safe throughout the trip.

"So, how long were we on the road?" asked Katjaa, hoping they hadn't been on the road for too long.

"Well, if these three teenage idiots didn't run out onto the road in front of me, pull their pants down, and start shaking their butts in front of me, then we would have been here two hours earlier," said Kenny, folding his arms angrily while looking at traffic up ahead. Clementine kept a disgusted face to herself, while Lee was trying not to laugh at what Kenny had told them.

"I guess they thought that since the apocalypse was about to end, they might as well do anything illegal that they can before it ends," said Lee, laughing half way through it. Kenny started laughing with him. Larry still had a serious look on his face, but even he couldnt help but smirk a little.

"I guess so," replied Kenny, looking back at Lee. Carley, Clementine, and Lilly were more than glad that they had been asleep when it happened. They didn't need any unnecessary events to unfold before things were hopefully going to get normal again. The pace of traffic was nothing short of, well, slow. From the looks of it, it took nearly three hours for only 20 cars to go through. Everyone was passing a gate with military police stationed in front of it. They stopped each car and looked it over, making sure nothing harmful got inside.

"I thought the guy on the radio said we didnt need any ID, so whats going on?" asked Kenny, his eyes intently focused on the gate.

"It doesnt seem like theyre looking for any ID at all Kenny. I think all theyre looking for, is anything illegal or explosive," said Lee. Kenny gave an inward chuckle. How stupid is that Kenny thought to himself.

"Like it really matters anymore. Look, I know were being put into a military camp, and I completely understand why they're looking for explosives, but it just doesn't seem like things are going to back to normal anytime soon. The law just doesnt matter much anymore these days, if at all. I really hope were making the right decision here, man," said Kenny, looking over toward Lee.

"I know things are really tough right now, but we all got to have hope that things will get better, to look forward to a better future. Dont you want that?" replied Lee, trying to diffuse any tension that was starting between the two friends.

"Well, I mean yeah, of course," said Kenny. Lee did have a good point, no doubt about that.

"All I'm saying, is that you have to try and think about what you want for you and your family. What life you want for your wife and son. The life you want to live for yourself," said Lee, hoping this was enough to bring Kenny back to a hopeful life. Kenny couldnt help but sigh in agreement to what his friend had told him. As he looked over at Katjaa and Duck, he knew Lee was right.

"Yeah, I guess youre right," said Kenny, finishing up his thoughts.

"You wanna know something?" Lee asked, thinking of how he wanted to prank his friend a little.

"Sure, what is it?" asked Kenny, a little curious.

"You dont think I'm right. You of all people should KNOW that Im right," said Lee, a smirk starting to form.

"OH, WHAT-EVER, LEE!!" yelled Kenny, jokingly. Lee couldn't hold in his laughter any longer. He and Kenny started to burst out in a fit after everything that was said. It had been said, it was done.

"You two are so immature," said Carely, looking back and forth between Lee and Kenny.

"Aw, man. Come on, Carley," said Lee and Kenny. Kenny needed someone else to back him up on this, anybody that he could find.

"Honey, back me up on this," said Kenny, turning to his wife. He knew she loved him and that she had his back on everything. No matter what. Right?

"Sorry, Kenny, but Im going to have to agree with Carley on this one," said Katjaa.

"Oh, no. You are NOT saying what I think your saying are ya?" asked Kenny.

"What? That you and Lee could be sleeping out in the NICE COLD RAIN tonight? Probably," said Katjaa, giving Kenny a little bit of a smirk. Clementine and Carley couldnt help but laugh at Kenny and Lees reaction. Kenny and Lee had a worried face while looking at each other thinking the same thing.

"Crap!" said Kenny, turning back around to move the RV forward a few feet. Clementine and Carley were trying so hard to contain their laughter. Unfortunately, for Lee and Kenny, it didn't last long.

"How on earth are you two still laughing?" asked Kenny, now not really looking forward to what Clementine and Carley had to say about him.

"Yeah, whats so funny you guys?" asked Lee.

"Seriously? You have no idea why me and Clem are laughing at you two?" asked Carley, honestly baffled that they had no clue what they were referring to.

"Not really, no," said Kenny, curious about it.

"You two act like a married couple or something," said Clementine, looking over at Carley, who seemed to agree with her. Lee and Kenny gave each other confused looks for a couple of seconds, trying to figure out what they were going to say.

"That...is um the most ridicu-. WE DO NOT," said Kenny.

"Yeah, sure Kenny, sure," said Katjaa, sarcastically. Kenny just sighed in defeat. He had other things to focus on anyway. It was time to focus on getting to that base, which luckily for them, they had just arrived at the gate. Had time really passed that quickly? Kenny really didnt care at the moment as he rolled down his window to greet the officer in uniform.
