"A Russian Soyuz booster rocket has successfully launched a satellite for the first time since a much-publicized failure in April.
The Defense Ministry said the Soyuz 2.1A rocket was launched Friday from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in northern Russia, placing a Russian military satellite into its designated orbit. The failure of-"
Faint beeping from the kitchen filled the apartment as I glanced up from my research paper and walked to the other side of the counter. The instant ramen I had put into the microwave only minutes before was done, which meant dinner was being served. I chuckled as I peeled back the plastic covering and revealed the cooked noodles.
"Bon appetite," I whispered in the best French accent I could muster, and broke apart a pair of wooden chopsticks.
As soon as I went to dive into the delicious instant food, a beeping sound emitted from my phone. A bit confused since I don't actually have any friends that would communicate with me via text messaging, I grasped the electronic device and peered down at the screen.
"こんにちは!ちょうどこの週ほたるさんのために、あなたの仕事のスケジュールを伝えます!v(^_^v)♪ (Hi! Just telling you your work schedule for this week Hotaru-san!)"
I cringed. It was only my boss, Shizume Saiko.
Another ding came from my phone as I looked down at the device again.
"月曜日 - 6-9
(Monday)
火曜日 - 6-7
(Tuesday)
水曜日は、あなたがオフに持っています!( ' ▽ ' )ノ
(Wednesday you have off!)
木曜日 - 7-10
(Thursday)
最後に、金曜日!- 8-10
(And lastly, Friday!)
あなたの日曜日ほたるさんの十分に休息を持っています!
(Have a good rest of your Sunday Hotaru-san!)"A sigh escaped my lips, I honestly hated working. I'd rather stay home in my bed, wrapped from head-to-toe in covers and read.
The café wasn't a terrible place to work, it's just tiring when you have late night shifts. On a school week.
I groaned and replied back with a "thanks" and continued to eat my noodles in sadness.
'Gah. I hate social interactions.'

After dinner, I cleaned up the kitchen and headed back to my bedroom with research papers in hand. Casually sipping on some tea I had stored away in my fridge, I read over the papers again to make sure I hadn't completely skipped over any important and needed facts. Because what kind of a researcher skips over facts that are needed to conduct a research paper? A bad one.
I sighed at my own lame joke (it wasn't really a joke but, you get the gist of it). "I really need to get out more. That one was so bad, it makes me want to hurl," I shivered and continued to walk to my room.
Setting the papers down onto the wooden desk located at the back of the room, I turned towards my vast book collection and hummed in thought. Still sipping on the lime green straw that came with the glass of tea, my fingers roamed across the hard and worn covers of the books before stopping on a deep blue one. I pulled it out of it's restraint and opened to the cover page.
"A Vast World of Stars: Astronomy Part One."
I grinned. You know that exhilarating and anxious feeling you get whenever you're crawling up the first hill of a roller coaster? Imagine that times ten.
The art of the sciences has always seemed to grasp my undivided attention. Whether it ranged from space to tectonic plates, I was all about it.
I walked back over to my desk and began working on my assigned project. Being a third year meant that I was given the opportunity to write essays that would earn me points towards graduation. And being the complete nerd that I am, I took the opportunity by the throat.
