"My name is Drake. I have never known my parents. I was separated from my parents at an early age but nature adopted me. I learnt to survive the hard way. I fought with beasts for food, water and shelter. Life was great but I was missing one thing, my identity. So I journeyed around the world in search of people just like me. I found my way back to the kingdom where I came from." A boy with dark locks said to the guards that held him captive. They stared at him unamused. "You caused so much damage to the marketplace." The boy shrank in his chair. "It was not my fault." Drake defended himself. "You critically injured four knights." The man said again. "It was not my fault." The knights growled as he could not find anything about Drake. "He is telling the truth." An old man with an eye patch on his right eye. "You! You killed my grandpa!" The old man tried to use his magic to restrain Drake. A sickle appeared in Drake's hand with a chain that wrapped around his arm. Drake threw the sickle at the old man's head. The old man avoided it as it dug into the stone wall of the room. Drake pulled the chain and launched himself towards the old man. Before he could reach the old man he was suspended in mid air. "Things are different little ones. I know how you feel but I did not do it out of spite. Welcome to the world of man. Become a knight and climb the ranks. When you receive the title of Paladin. I will face your wrath." The man said as he walked into a portal. Drake regained his momentum and slammed into the wall. "Where did he go!" Drake roared in anger. His eyes were red and the tattoos on his body glowed. A badge fell on his head with his name on it.
"A princess is strong, a princess is powerful. A princess... does not wear chainmail under her dress." A woman who was walking past three girls said as she stopped at the last girl. She tugged at the chainmail sticking out of her dress. "You showed up at the last minute, mother. I was training with sir Hendrickson." The girl complained "That drunkard." The woman said under her breath as she regained her composure. "Tianna, you are sixteen years of age and yet you affinity has not manifested. Do you want to know why?" The woman asked her youngest daughter who looked the most like her. From her silver hair to her blue eyed to her body shape. "You are fixated on a childish dream of becoming a knight from a fairytale. Wake up to reality Tianna, you are a princess. One in line for the throne. You do not have time to be playing around with swords." Her mother said as the chainmail appeared in her hands. The girl ran to her room. Her mother's words echoed in her ears as tears streamed down her face. She stared out the window of her room in the royal castle. The kingdom was celebrating tomorrow's knight selections. Tianna closed the windows and turned to see the mural of her, her sisters and her mother. "I do not want to be a princess, I want to be a knight." She said to herself in front of the mural.
Drake stood in the crowd of people. "Welcome, you have all gathered here today to fulfill your dreams. Dreams to become knights, heroes to the kingdom." A knight's badge formed in front of the announcer. "Although many of you desire it, only sixteen slots are open. The first sixteen to take down the beasts hidden in the hunting grounds can become knights. The beasts have a badge attached to them. Slay the beast, take the badge and become a knight." The crowd roared and they rushed through the doors that were being opened. Drake gripped his badge, he was told that he did not have to take the test because he was already a knight. He had to see what the competition was about. Why people became knights. Many of the participants had to be pulled out by the knights overseeing the tests. Those who knew what they were doing banded together to take on a beast but turned against each other to get the badge. He sensed a strong mana and found a silver haired girl. She seemed confident but held her sword close in fear. "Just like we trained for. We will slay a beast on our own and get the knight badge before they notice I was ever gone." She jumped at a shadow and cut a tree down. She had a good foundation in swordsmanship. Drake followed her quietly. She was able to easily take out all the small monsters around the beast with a badge. Her mana was strong but she did not know how to use it. He just did not understand why a person that is so strong is so incompetent. She finally came across the beast that held the badge. It was a boar with a missing tusk. Its one tusk was made out of a gray crystal and it had markings of mana all over its body. "Of course a crystal beast will be guarding the badge." She said under her breath. She looked at the sun and began to panic. She stumbled into the line of sight and drew the boars attention. The boar roared as it took notice of her before charging her. She managed to dodge out of the first charge but dropped her sword in the process. The boar circled around and rammed her into a tree. She hit her head hard and felt dizzy. Before the boar could finish her off Drake pulled her up the tree with his sickle and chain. "Why do you want to become a knight?" Boar hit the tree but he stood there unfazed. "Because my mother said I can't." She said with tears in her eyes. She hugged Drake and for the first time he felt another human vulnerable. "I want to become a knight I real do but I want someone to at least believe in me." He wiped her tears and then licked it. She smacked him, "Why would you do that you weirdo." He smiled as he swung her to the ground. "I want to know why do you want to be a knight? Come and find me after the test. I will be at Barrack 12." Drake said as he walked away. She was his tattooed back as he left her. The boar roared behind her bringing her back to reality. She picked up her sword and it hummed with the magic she put in it. "See you soon!" With a new mindset she was able to single handedly defeat the crystal beast. She looked around for the boy that helped her. All she could remember was his lack of a shirt, dark skin and long dreadlocked hair.
