Mating Season

Chapter 1- Lucy

I was sitting at the bar in the guild, thinking about Natsu's abnormal behavior lately. He's been more protective and clingy than usual. In fact, all the dragon slayers have except for Wendy. Gajeel won't let Levy out of his sight, neither would Laxus let Mira out of his. I wonder if Levy knows anything and can explain it.

"Lu-chan!" I turned toward the voice and saw Levy running to me with Gajeel watching her every move. She reached me then sat on the stool beside me.

"Have you noticed Gajeel watching me closely lately? It's been creeping me out," Levy whispered in my ear knowing that Gajeel would probably hear her with his dragon hearing if she talked any louder.

"Yeah, I have. I was just wondering if you knew anything about why."

"No, I have no clue. Maybe it has something to do with dragon slayers. I'm going to go to the library and see if I can find anything. Can you come Lu-chan?" Levy looked at me and begged me to go with her. I was about to respond until I felt an arm sling over my shoulder.

"Lucy why didn't you wait for me at your apartment to walk you to the guild? Are you avoiding me?" Natsu said while pouting.

"No! I just wanted to walk by myself today," I responded pushing his arm of my shoulder.

"Oh okay," he said his mood brightening instantly and smiling big. "Hey Luce can we go on a job today?"

"Aye, Lushee please," the blue cat pleaded, hugging Lucy's chest.

"Sorry Natsu, Happy but not today. I'm going to the library with Levy," I said pulling Happy off me and setting him on the bar in front of me.

"But Luuuce I want you to hang out with me today. I'm your best friend," Natsu said while putting his arm around me once again. I blushed a little at Natsu's clingy behavior.

"We can hang out tomorrow," I mumbled while getting of the stool and pulling Levy along with me, "let's go Levy."

When we walked outside the guild's doors, Natsu and Gajeel was still staring at us.

"Hey Lu-chan, I think I found something about the dragon slayers," Levy called to me from the other said of the library. We had been searching through the shelfs of the guild's library for hours now with no luck.

"About time we found something. My back was starting to hurt bending over for so long. Are there any chapters explaining Natsu's and Gajeel's behavior lately?"

"Just a second, I think there is a chapter ab- I found it!"

"Really?!" I ran over to the shelf where Levy was at and looked over her shoulder.

"They're behavior is described in the chapter Mating Season. What could that mean?"

"I don't know Levy, just read the chapter."

"Okay. It says that a dragon slayer goes through Mating Season when the he or she hits maturity and has formed an emotional connection with a person. The dragon slayer will take on more possessive and violent personality traits. This happens in the beginning of the Mating Season and as the the days go on, the dragon slayer's eyes will change to the color of which they're element is. During this time, the dragon slayer's power will increase tenfold and they will have the constant need to be around their mate. The dragon slayer's emotions are hyped and they will then proceed to mark and commence intercourse with their mate. After intercourse the Mating Season slowly comes to an end. The length of a Mating Season varies for each dragon slayer."

Levy and I stood there in shock after what was just read. Does this mean we are their mates? Their lovers? I'm pretty sure Natsu is too dense to know the difference between love for a nakama or romantic love.

"Levy... what does this mean?" I couldn't believe this. I don't even know if Natsu or Gajeel know what's happening to them. Hell, I don't even know if I am even Natsu's mate. He's probably in love with Lisanna.

"Lu-chan... does this mean... they're in love with us," Levy questioned. We where both puzzled an didn't know what to make of the situation we were in.

"I don't know, but what I do know is that we should just carry on as usual and the boys will make it known to us if we are their mates. I'm going to take the book with me and keep it for a while to see if I can find more information about the Mating Season. Let's just go home and pretend nothing's happened."

"Okay Lu-chan. I'll see you at the guild tomorrow! Tell me if you find anything else out!"

"Okay! Bye," I yelled to Levy as she was walking out the doors, leaving me alone. I'll get more knowledge about Mating Season when I get home. I'll be able to think more clearly then. And with that thought, I started on my way home.
