It rains the hardest on those who deserve the sunViolet POV
"Welcome to Camp Half-Blood." Grover said, leading me to an ancient looking archway.
I simply gazed at the bustling scene below me - teenagers sparring between the trees; people wandering between curious cabins; and a sea of strawberries.
"You're new, so you'll be training with Jason, Piper and Leo - they only got here yesterday," Grover explained as we headed toward a small clearing inbetween a few trees with a weapon rack and some dummies.
"Yes sir!" I shouted.
"Maybe don't shout when you're here, some people have sensitive ears." A man-horse walked up to us, "You must be Violet. Welcome to Camp Half-Blood."
I saluted.
"No need for such formalities, everyone at CHB will soon be like your family."
"I do not need replacements, thank you."
Horseman sighed and started walking toward the other people and weapon racks. "I'm Chiron, activities director. This is Jason, Leo and Piper. You will all be training together, as you arrived at more or less the same time."
I noticed another girl leaning against a tree, adjacent to the weapon rack. I wondered who she was.
H̶o̶r̶s̶e̶m̶a̶n̶ Chiron quickly ran through the different weapon types and their fighting styles, before asking me what weapon we wanted to try first. I chose a spear due to its similarity to a bayonet.
"Do any of you have any prior experience with weapons or fighting in general?" Chiron asked.
"I dunno. Probably." Jason said, while Leo and Piper shook their heads.
"I am highly trained in hand-to-hand and with a rifle and bayonet, sir."
The others looked at me, shocked.
"Aren't bayonets only used in war though?" Piper seemed worried.
"Yes, that is mainly where they are used." Was that not common knowledge?
"So... How do you know how to use one?" Jason seemed to be following Pipers thoughts.
"I was trained by Major Bougainvillea to better ensure my chances of survival in battle."
"...oh"
"Moving on, would you like to give us a demonstration of hand to hand, Violet?"
I stepped up to be infront of Chiron.
"I want you to attempt to restrain Mei, the girl to your left."
A black haired girl - probably around 16 - held her arms infront of her in a fighting stance. This shouldn't be too difficult.
Chiron signalled for us to start and, in one swift move, I had both Mei's hands behind her back.
She seemed stunned at how fast she was defeated, but her eyes widened further when she looked up.
Being careful to not release her, I followed Mei's gaze to a red, holographic boar above my head.
