It was a stormy night in Auradon Mal was having a very restless sleep has defender boomed and lightning struck Mal woke up with a scream "AHHH MOTHER DON'T STOP PLEASE!!!" Mal blinked a couple times as she breathed hard she wasn't sure if it was nightmare or a memory sometimes it was too hard to tell she rings her fingers through her hair trying to calm down her breathing.
She looked next to her and then remembered that Ben had to go on a diplomatic trip and wouldn't be back till tomorrow at the latest.
Mal decided she would take a shower and try and calm herself down, she stood up and went to her and Ben's shared bathroom.
Mal took her nightgown off looking at herself in the mirror, she looked at every scar her mother had caused for one reason or another Ben and her friends who are the only ones that knew about them nearly because her friends helped patch her up afterwards and Ben was her husband she hated her scars Ben told her over and over again that it didn't matter if she had them or not he loved her and she was beautiful and his eyes she smiled to herself remembering the first time he said that to her
He had accidentally walked in to a room without knocking while she was changing she was putting on her shirt when he walked in and saw the scars on her back.
She had dropped her shirt when she saw him she thought he was going to find her ugly or weak, but instead all he did was close the door walk in fully take off his jacket and put it around her and said "we can talk about it whenever you're ready sweetheart." She remembered how all she could do in that moment was hug him and cry.
She shook her head and got into the shower letting the hot water hit her back.
She sighed softly letting herself relax a little she stayed like that for a few minutes and then got out of the shower.
Mal went to Ben's side of the closet and put on one of his oversized shirts and a pair of her shorts.
She walked back into their room and realized she was hungry she didn't want to bug the servants so she walked to the kitchen.
When is she got to the kitchen she pulled out her cookies from the pantry and started to eat one she didn't hear someone walk in to the kitchen but she felt their arms wrap around her and pull her close
Mal flinched at first and then recognized the arms that were holding her
Ben said "what are you doing up so late my queen?"
Mal hugs him and said "I thought you weren't coming back till tomorrow afternoon?"
Ben smiles and says "I managed to come back early to surprise you." He wrapped his arms around her pulling her closer and kissing her forehead
Mal sighed comfortably she loved being in his arms.
Ben said "did you have another nightmare?" Mal nodded he said in a soft gentle voice "do you want to talk about it?" Mal shook her head he says "do you want to go to bed and cuddle?" Mal nodded.
Ben picked her up bridal style and carried her back to their room laying her down gently and kissing her forehead laying down next to her and holds her closer if that was possible Mal eventually falls back into a comfortable sleep deep and calm Ben following behind her.
