(Tw : Periods and blood
Also, beforehand... none in the family knows that Lee is Trans (maybe not even realized it himself at the moment))The Pines twins were infamous in their neighborhood. Stanford, an intelligent boy, with a neck for adventure and everything supernatural, and Shirley, a tomboyish girl, who'd break anyone's spine for her brother. Both born on June 15th, to Filbrick and Caryn Pines.
They were known as many things. The beach kids, opposite twins, the troublemakers, adventure seekers and many more. But there was something, everyone knew about them, that would stick with them throughout their lives so far. It was that they would always stick together. There was never Stanford without Shirley, and never Shirley without Stanford.
People around town quickly learned it, and it included the twins themselves. Since the moment they left their mother's womb, they always were by one another's side.
From school to beach, from morning to night, from sitting at each other's side at dinner to comforting each other after a bad dream at night. It was their lives as they knew it. And they were comfortable with at this. To say more, they loved it. They never wanted, or even imagined, if their lives would turn to moment when they would no longer be side by side.
But little would they know that their happiness was coming to an end...
As one morning, the house woke up to high-pitched scream.
Stanford was the one to wake up first, as the scream seemed to be closest to him. And it took him about a second to realize just where that scream came from.
Sliding down the ladder of their bunk bed, the boy looked over to his sister with worried face. Shirley was sitting in small ball next to her pillow, holding her feet to her body. It seemed like she was mumbling something under her breath, but nothing that Stanford could understand.
"Lee..." The older twin asked softly, reaching for his sister. "What's going on..?"
Another sniff left Shirley, before she looked up at him with eyes, filled with fear "S... sixer?"
"Yes... It's me... what's..?" Stanford came closer to Shirley, placing hand on her bed, before feeling his hand on something... sticky and wet... "Huh?" He then looked at the sheets to see...
Bunch of blood stains all over it...
It did cause Stanford to jump away too. "W... what the-?! Lee!?" He came towards his twin, trying to check on her, but she just moved away. "Lee... please, let me check on you... I want..."
The door to their room flew open the next second.
"Shirley!? Stanford!?" The voice of their mother asked.
Both twins looked up to see both their parents standing in doorway. Caryn, obviously, worried, and Filbrick with his stone face, but clearly displeased with such rough early awakening.
"Mom! Dad!" Stanford said, now facing his parents. "Something happened to Lee! There's... blood!"
Caryn's face changed right away, as it seemed that she picked up on something. She walked across the room to her children, to sit next to Shirley.
"Shirley... what's going on, my dear?"
The girl looked up at her mother with a tearful face "Mom..." She sniffled again. "I don't know... but... that... I have no idea what happened..!"
Caryn then looked over the girl's bed, when her eyes widened. But then her face softened, taking the small girl into the hug, strocking her daughter's hair.
"Oh, Lee... it's okay..." Caryn said in soft voice, before turning to her husband. "I'll take care of this... can you..." She showed to Stanford with her head.
Filbrick just nodded, taking the boy's hand, who just yelped from being pulled away so suddenly. The older twin trued to ask his parents what was going on, as they seemed to know what was happening to Lee.
It was in the living room, where Stanford was finally let go. He rubbed his hand from his father's grip, but still his gaze was stuck to his father's face.
"Pa... what's going on..? Is... is Lee hurt?" Stanford asked. He couldn't help it. Lee was his baby sister, he couldn't ignore the worry of her.
Filbrick sighed, shaking his head. "No, Stanford. She's... growing up. What you witnessed is part of what happens to girl's body, when she matures."
"Oh..." The boy looked down. "Is it going to be forever now?"
Filbrick looked at his son, placing a hand on his shoulders. "Stanford, I tell you what. All, I know, is that this will happen to her for about a week monthly from this point on. This is not our place to meddle with."
And then man stood up, when he heard footsteps coming down the hall to them.
"And, luckily for us, your mother's got it covered."
Caryn nodded, a hand on Shirley's shoulder, who still held onto her stomach.
"Lee!" Her twin said, before running to her for a hug. Shirley gladly accepted it, burying head into his chest with a sigh. "What happened there? Dad told me about your thing. What Mom do?"
"Oh... well..." Shirley looked up to Stanford, before rubbing back of her neck. "Mom said it's okay, I'll just need to take painkillers and wear some protection on my underwear to prevent blood from spilling on my clothes." She explained, sitting down on the couch. "But it feels like I'm wearing a diaper now..."
Stanford then brusted into laughter, lightly punching Shirley in the arm. "Ew, gross!" He giggled, before getting a punch back from his sister.
The twins were laughing, unaware to their parents watched them with uneasy look on faces. Then, Filbrick took Caryn to the kitchen to talk over something.

The morning went on easily, the twins enjoying some early cartoons with cereal, like it always was...
Until the TV was turned off by their father, much to their dismay.
"Heeeey!" Both kids whined, looking up to their parents. "We were watching that!"
"We know, kids." Filbrick said, before going in front of them. "We just wanted to say that Stanford will be packing his things. You're moving to Sherman's old room"
"What!?" Both twins asked in unison.
