Once upon a time, in a faraway land, a young prince lived in a shining castle.
Although he had everything he desired(a whole bunch of apples), he was spoiled, selfish, and unkind.
One freezing night, an old beggar person with eyes that looked like windows came to the castle.
They offered the prince an apple pie in return for shelter from the bitter cold.
Repelled by their ragged appearance(and that he didn't want to risk the pie being poisoned and maybe the whole window eye situation), he sneered at the gift and turned them away.
"Do not be deceived by appearances," they warned him, "for beauty is found within."
The prince casted the beggar way once more only for them to reveal themself as an enchantress(I don't know the gender neutral term for enchantress), who saw that the prince had no love in him heart.
As punishment, they transform him into a hideous beast and inflicted a curse on everyone in the castle.
They then gave him an enchanted mirror as his only window to the outside world.
The enchantress left behind the pie they had offered, which would be whole until his twenty-first year.
For the spell to be broken, he would have to love another and earn that person's love in return before the last bit of the pie was gone.
If he failed to complete this task, he would remain a beast forever.
But who could ever love a beast?
