Drown in what you regret, bury what you've killed and burn all that's left.
The boy runs away from me,- and the dead body - and unlocks Adam's cell. He helps him up, and pulls him in for a 'guy hug'.
"Good to see you, man," the boy says.
"Yeah," says Adam fleetingly before running over to me.
"Hey, you okay?" he asks me frantically. He touches my hand and I flinch at the sudden contact.
"Sorry" he whispers as he retracts his hand.
"N-no," I whisper back.
I shakingly take his hand, finding comfort, finding safety. He looks a little shocked, but he smiles at me anyways.
"Dude, we gotta go! Ree hasn't got time for you two to start making out!" The boy whined.
Both of us look at him shock and ... something else plastered on both our faces. Adam starts to ramble about 'how that's not what was going to happen', and I take the time to look closely at the boy. He's got long blonde hair, blue eyes - but not as blue as Adams - he's tall, like super super tall. He's cute, definitely but he seems pretty dim. Maybe first impressions are sometimes wrong though.
"Adam," I whisper,
"Huh? Yeah?"
"I think you should you get out of here,"
The look on his face was pure bafflement. "Eve, I'm not leaving you here," he tells me.
"Huh?" Me and the boy both exclaim at the same time.
We both look towards the boy. He shrugs, "I'm cool with it but if your girlfriend's gonna tag along can she tag along super quickly?"
I look at the boy in shock and disagreement.
"Shut up, would you?" Adam says to him.
"Mhm Ok. Whatever, can you walk?" he asks me.
"Umm I don't...maybe?" I question.
I try to pull myself up - with the help of Adam's hand obviously - and fail. I fall back, and exclaim in pain.
"Yeah um...I can't...I can't walk," I grit out.
"Okay okay. Just take your time okay we'll-" Adam starts,
"Yeah but like not too long cause you know-" the boy intejects.
"Lucas!" Adam scowls.
Lucas makes a face and turns his head looking at the stairs. So Lucas is his name. Not going to lie, kinda suits him.
"Eve, I'm gonna help you up okay? But I'm going to have to hold your waist, is that okay?" Adam asks me kindly.
I turn my head back to him, and look at him. His eyes are concerned and kind and absolutely gorgeous....have I hit my head again?
"Eve?" He presses, "We kinda gotta go,"
"R-right. Yeah that's um...that's okay," I stutter.
"Okay,"
"Okay," he repeats.
He holds my hand a little tighter, and grabs my waist, after a moment of hesitation he pulls me to my feet. I shout in pain, before biting my lip. You know when you see a really pretty boy, willing to save your life so you kinda forget you were electrocuted, hurt and assaulted? Yeah that's kinda the present time.
I push the pain aside for a moment and focus on staying upright. God this hurts.
"Okay, so can you just move your right foot over there and-"
"I remember how to walk, Adam," I point out.
"Right, yeah sorry. Um, so let's just carefully move away from the dead guy and..."
I forgot about him. I feel so dirty and empty inside it's...it's awful. It's draining too. I would say it couldn't get worse, but after last time, I think it's best not to jinx it. I start to feel really dizzy and really not...good.
"Adam...I...I'm gonna pass out...in a...minute," I make out.
"What?! No, no, no stay awake for me. C'mon! I've got you, c'mon, stay awake," Adam panics.
"Catch...me..."
And I black out. Again.
***
There's shouting. That's definite. And um...gunshots. Yeah.
Oh God.
I flutter my eyes open, and I realise I'm not running. Or standing. Adam is carrying me bridal style, whilst trying to escape. Cliche but I'm not complaining. My body hurts so freaking bad. I try to turn or move or something and only end up hurting myself.
"Duck!" I hear Lucas shout.
We hit the ground with a thud and I groan.
"Eve? You okay?" Adam asks quickly.
"Peachy." I say back with a laugh.
HIs face instantly softened and a small chuckle escaped his lips. He looks me in the eye for a brief moment before turning back to Lucas.
"How long have we got?" he checks.
"About eight-point-one-six minutes," Lucas calculates.
"How long till what?" I am puzzled.
"Till we run," Lucas says.
"We have a whole four minutes to get from here, to that clearing in the trees, okay?" Adam informs me, "There'll be a distraction on the west side of the mansion, at that point we have to run. And we have to make it otherwise..."
"Otherwise we're goners" Lucas finishes for him.
The trees are at least one-hundred yards from here. I run this through my brain over and over again, thinking that it's not the best plan but I've not got another one. Plus I'm sure they've figured it out, I trust them. For the most part.
"Right. So when the distraction happens that's our signal?" I check. Adam nods.
"Okay," I say, "What exactly is the distraction?"
Adam scratches the back of neck and squints his eyes. Now I'm curious.
He stutters,"Um well you see...it's not my idea but um...you know how oh...um..."
"You'll see," Lucas laughs, "Three minutes fifty-one, get ready."
Okay. Adam's grip on my waist tightens, and his face is tense. I have a strange urge to run my hands over his jaw, to calm him down but I keep that to myself. We wait for what seems like ages but we crouch down to get into a running position.
"Ten, nine, eight, seven," Lucas counts down, "Four, three, two one."
BOOM!
Everything blew up! What the hell?! People are shouting and screaming and computers are saying things calmly but it's insane. It. Is. Chaos.
We're running. Well, they're running because technically Adam's carrying me. We're about halfway there, when I hear more shouting, but it's closer. Oh god. They've seen us. There's gunshots all around us, it's so loud and-
I'm shot. Crap! I'm shot. My left leg is bleeding, oh I exclaim in pain, and Adam panicky runs faster. Surely if I'm hit, he's got to be.
"Hold on Eve, hold on!" he shouts at me.
I can't. The blood, the electricity, the punch, everything. I can't hold on.
"T-thanks," I whisper to Adam.
"What?! No, no, no, no! You are getting out of here Eve! Don't you dare die on me! I got you out! EVE!" His voice becomes a whisper in the wind.
And, maybe for the last time, I black out.
