little dream loves talking to his friends, even when he's super sleepy.

──

Dream blinks slowly in the dim light of the blue LEDs in his room, his face softly illuminated by his monitors. With his head resting in his folded arms, it's easy to let the gentle lull of his friend's voices in his headphones tune everything else out. Nothing bad can reach him here, not when he feels so safe.

Truthfully, he could probably fall asleep right here in his chair if he shut his eyes for long enough, but he wants to keep listening to his friends, so he wills himself to stay awake.

He slipped about an hour ago if he had to guess. Although it's all a little muddled in his floaty mind. He was too caught up in fuzzy thoughts and the sound of familiar voices to really notice it happening, and when he did notice he was feeling small, it was all too easy to settle back in his chair and just relax.

. . .

Just as he's about to nod off, Tina's voice reaches him through his headphones, saying something about logging off for the day. It makes Dream sits up a bit in his chair, a bubble of worry suddenly growing in his chest.

"...Probably gonna go eat some dinner and watch a show," she is saying. "Just wind down for the evening, ya know."

Dream quickly becomes very aware of how much he doesn't want her to leave; he wants to keep hearing her voice and hanging out with her – at least for a little bit longer.

"Tina," he mumbles, a shy protest.

It makes him feel warm all over, talking after being quiet for so long.

Neither Tina, Sam, or Foolish know about his age regression, and even though Dream knows for a fact that they would never judge him for it, the thought of them catching on still makes him want to curl up in his chair and hide away.

"Tina stay," he manages to get out, albeit very quietly.

There's a beat and then Tina is talking again. "What was that Dream?" She asks gently.

Dream smiles, even shyer now that he knows his friends are listening to him. Though he doesn't really know what he wants to say, so he chews on his lip instead.

"You there Dream?" Sam butts in after a few moments, and now Drean really feels like he has to say something. He has their full attention now, after all.

"Yeah, 'm here." The words are muffled by his hoodie collar which he has pulled up over his lips.

"Are you okay? You sound kinda quiet," Tina says, a hint of worry in her voice that Dream picks up on immediately. He doesn't want her to worry.

"Wanna talk to you Tina," he admits. "Don' wan' you ta leave yet."

He hears a small chuckle from Tina which makes him smile as well.

"Alright, we can keep talking Dream," she says kindly. "I'm gonna call you up separately, okay?"

Dream has to resist the urge to clap his hands together with joy – he gets to keep talking to Tina!

"'Kay," he smiles, pulling himself in closer to his desk and adjusting his headset which has slipped down a bit.

"Bye, you two!" Sam says, followed by Foolish calling out, "Yeah bye, talk soon!"

Dream doesn't resist the urge to wave goodbye to their discord icons on his screen. "Bye-bye Sam an' Foolish."

Then just a second after he has left the call, the sound of someone calling him fills his ears. He is already smiling as he moves his mouse over to the green accept-call button.
