For a while now, Chanyeol has often given time to contemplating what happened to Baekhyun when he was younger. Baekhyun had already explained it to him once before, on their first date. As they sat in the park on the blanket that Chanyeol had purchased from a nearby store, Baekhyun confessed his family situation over chicken nuggets. Baekhyun was an orphan who had never wanted or even tried to find his parents, explaining that it was probably for the best that he was left in that orphanage so that he could thrive independently without being a burden to them. Despite being heartbroken to learn of what his soulmate had suffered through for the majority of his life, Baekhyun spoke about his time in the orphanage with a bright smile on his face. He had so many memories and stories from that time that he struggled to remain consistent when expressing them.

Chanyeol thought that the information he had learned during their first date would be the only chance he had to learn more about his soulmate's background, especially since Baekhyun had never openly spoken about it since.

At least until now.

Shortly after Kyungsoo, Jongin and Yixing's plane had left the tarmac of the airfield, Baekhyun had turned to his soulmate and requested that they go somewhere together. They had retreated to the car and rather than direct him towards their destination, Baekhyun simply input the coordinates into the car's GPS system before turning up the radio to lightly sing along to one of the songs.

For the past hour and a half, Chanyeol had been left to simmer in his own thoughts. Baekhyun had spent that time entertaining himself with the radio and scrolling through one of his favourite Instagram pages. Their conversation was minimal at best but they certainly didn't think their circumstance was awkward, in fact, they both found themselves pleased with each other's company and the comfort it brought alongside it.

"Chanyeol?" Baekhyun's voice was small, irate. The warmth against Chanyeol's wrist was sudden and tight. Baekhyun had clearly been trying to get his attention for some time.

"Hmm?" He responded, keeping his eyes locked on the highway ahead. He mentally scolded himself for allowing himself to get caught up in his own thoughts, dragging his attention from the road in front of him. It was a miracle that they hadn't crashed.

"Are you alright? You've been awfully quiet ever since we left the airfield, didn't we agree that we would stop off to get some food?"

"Shit..." the vampire whimpered. "I'm so sorry Baekhyun, I just have a lot on my mind right now."

"Is it because of the meeting tomorrow?" the human wondered. "You know you can talk about it with me, Kyungsoo already told me a lot about it! I might be able to help you set your mind at ease!"

"No sweetheart." Chanyeol shook his head, allowing his free hand to shift just enough to entwine their fingers. "I don't want to unload my worries onto you about tomorrow. You're probably just as worried as I am-"

"I'm surprisingly okay about it to be honest."

"Seriously?"

"Yeah." Baekhyun confirmed. "Truly. I have no explanation for it other than the fact that after my talk with Kyungsoo my questions have been answered. I know each of their names, what position within the council they have and some of their common interests and dislikes to help with conversational flow. Kyung said that as long as I remain truthful I shouldn't really have a problem."
