The kiss wasn't special. Or at least, that was what I kept telling myself whenever I brought my fingers and touched my lips. It didn't matter what I was or not doing. Any stray thought that had Tayo in it, brought my fingers there and my mind in dream mode.
This wasn't my first kiss.
Andre kissed me on the first date. Slammed one right on my lips as we stood on my parents porch. I had my fair share of kisses but none felt so real or strong.
Nothing like Tayo's own
I shake my head, pushing the thoughts of Tayo, the kiss and everything out of my mind. Thinking about all of that wouldn't do me much good, especially now.
''I hate chemistry,'' Jessica shouts, pulling her hair and falling into my bed.
''The girls owe me ten bucks each,'' I say, pulling my notebooks out of my bag and setting them on the table. She scrunches her face, moving her nose up and down and narrowing her eyes.
Like a cat, she struts to me, each step measured and exuding a mix of confidence and barely veiled anger.
''Explain.''
Just one word and I'm ready to throw everyone to the bus.
''We had a bet on how long it'd take you to complain about the chemistry test. I put you down for immediately, Talia said you'd complain after an hour and London said you'd skip it. Thanks for helping me become thirty bucks richer. I'd buy you Starbucks or something.''
Like the drama queen she is, Jessica throws her head backwards, resting one hand against her forehead while the other is splayed on her chest.
''You guys bet on me? That hurts.'' She drops on the floor, rug cushioning her fall and wails. But I catch the smile on her face and twinkle in her eye.
She's just being dramatic as usual.
''Cut it off. We have a major test tomorrow and I'm not letting you be the reason I don't get good grades.''
She pushes off the floor, dusting her pants and drags the ottoman closer to my desk. Jessica leans against me, her hair cascading down her back in waves and tickling my bare arm.
''You? Not get good grades? The world must be coming to an end. It's chemistry, the subject's your bitch.''
We laugh, before I straighten pulling the textbook closer and opening my books.
''What don't you understand?''
She scratches her head, tilting it here and there before shrugging and pushing her fingers together. ''Everything.''
I groan.
''Come on, don't be like that. If you don't help me, I'm going to fail this class and my dad's going to stop giving me driving lessons.''
I stop, scratching my head while Jessica shrugs her shoulders.
''But you don't even like the driving lessons. You complain every time.''
''Yeah,'' she stresses it like I'm supposed to get it.
But I'm not. And she groans, flicking my forehead.
''Dad complains too. It's like a bonding exercise for us both. I also like seeing him mad.''
Rolling my eyes, I pull the books back, checking the time on my phone. I could have also checked the clock hanging on top of my table but the phone's closer.
It's definitely not because I'm expecting a call from Tayo.
Nope. Not at all.
