Iris
The living room is cold with the fan blowing down on top of me. After spending almost all of my morning trying to choreograph a new dance, I deserve the ability to take a nap. The studio has hired me to teach a new class full of young adults. I am more nervous for this class knowing that some people will be younger, older, and even the same age as me.
I'm 25 which isn't old at all, but I still feel a sense of unaccomplishment in my life when I think about the way I spend my time. I live in a big city with tons of things to go out and do and see, yet I spend a majority of my time at home with my roommate Sky.
I've been best friends with him ever since we were young. Apparently our mothers met at a baby yoga place and decided that for the next 25 years of their lives they would be best friends. It made sense because our parents were young when they had us compared to other people. Sky's mom was 20 and single, and my mother and father were 19 and 20. Because Sky's mom was a single mom, she had to work a lot to take care of her and Sky. That ment tons of sleepovers for me and him when we were younger.
I let my eyes close at the happy thoughts of my childhood with Sky. My memories go from playing tag in the backyard to watching scary movies that we weren't allowed to watch, sneaking out once we got older to go to the park that is just down the street from the apartments we used to live in. I want to go back to those simple days.

"Iris... Iris. You fell asleep." No shit Sherlock and I sure was happy being asleep. My peaceful dreamland is interrupted by the large weight of Sky on top of me and his finger repeatedly poking my cheek. "You were supposed to make me lunch when I got home from work but when I came home you were asleep. I thought you were dead until I heard you snoring."
I forgot about having to make lunch for Sky today. He works at a bookstore and has very flexible hours. Since we live right in the middle of a big city almost everything is just a short walk away and we can avoid the tedious traffic. Oftentimes Sky will walk home during his longer breaks or take a small walk around town during his shorter breaks.
"I'm sorry, I forgot. I've been overthinking about the new class and spent too much time dancing. I think I overworked myself first thing in the morning." I roll from my side onto my back which causes Sky to roll on his back beside me.
"Are you hungry now?" He asks me, standing up and grabbing my hands to pull me up too.
"Very hungry. There's an empty pit in my stomach right now that needs to be filled." My words cause Sky and I to burst into a fit of laughter.
"Did you eat breakfast?" I shake my head no at his question. I didn't feel like eating this morning. I wanted to try and get the dance done as soon as possible since the class is every week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I figured that if I finished the dance today I would be able to do something fun over the weekend and not stress.
"You need to eat more. I don't know what you would do without me in your life. Who else will be able to take care of you like I do?" Sky has now gathered all ingredients and is starting to cook spaghetti. Spaghetti is one of the easiest meals that we've been making recently. Pasta, sauce, and frozen meatballs is all we need to make it so it is an extremely quick, easy, and budget friendly meal.
"I eat perfectly fine. Today was just different." I only get a hum in response from Sky so I keep quiet until dinner is ready.
"Eat this." Sky tells me while he hands me a bowl filled with spaghetti. "June text earlier and wants to know if we want to go to a club with her. Will you be too tired to do that?" June is pretty much our best and only friend. We met her when we were in college but couldn't hang out too often because she went to a different school and had a very busy schedule. Once we got out of college we would hang out all the time. We don't live too far from each other and our schedules didn't conflict too much until June got her new job.
