Chapter 𝐓𝐰𝐨
Present Day

"You don't have to be so nervous around my mom." I watched as Connor placed his plate inside the dishwasher. "Im not nervous around her I just... don't wanna disrespectful towards her." he closed the dishwasher turning it on.

"Well try saying 'no' for a chance." his eyes widened "Are you crazy!? I could never say that to your mom!" I laughed as he scanned the area making sure she didn't hear what I said.

"Baby I'm only joking!" Connor flinched at his pet name. I sighed defeated. "When can will you let me call you cute names, Connor."

"Huh? you can call cute name I-I don't mind." he shrugged trying to brush off his visible discomfort. "Are you positive?" He nods.

I could tell he was lying but last thing I wanted was to upset him.

Connor picked up my purse from the counter "Ready to go?" he smiles I nod reaching for his I watched as his face quickly turned red. I giggled pulling him along beside me. "Mom we're leaving!" I called out.

"Have a good day sweetheart!" she shouts as I opened the front door. Connor allows me to walk out first closing the door behind us as I turned to lock the first door Connor went to start his car.

Me and Connor have been dating for two years now. Technically our three year anniversary is coming up very soon. There is an exciting feeling inside I love spending time with him we practically grew up together.

He's like my better half I know everything about him and he knows everything about me. There are times growing up where I wished my brother could be here to see how much we've matured.

I let out a sigh and took a deep breath turning to Connor's car. "Connor?" he quickly stuck something inside his pocket nervously grinning "Ready to go?" he calls out. I opened the passenger seat door "Yup!"

-

"She proceeds to tell me I'm out of shape!" I rant "She's my best friend and everything but I promise you she keeps this up and that bitch can catch these hands." I sat back fuming at a past interaction. Connor 'uh-huh' occasionally trying to show interest in my situation but I can tell he wasn't interested at all.

"Sooo how's football coming along?" I asked trying to change the subject.

He shrugs "We won the away game on Tuesday."

"Oh did you? You never texted me!"

"As a cheerleader I would except you to keep up with my games." I laughed "Babe you know football is the last thing I care about."

"Im just there for the cheer uniforms besides you know I caught the flu." Connor slowed his car at the upcoming red light.  "I know- its just- I took this win as an opportunity to tell you something..."

I raised my brow in confusion "Well I'm here now. Tell me." I smiled growing excited.

Connor stared down into my eyes his brown orbs staring directly into mine. "Niya... Im-"

BEEP BEEP

A car horn honked impatiently behind us causing Connor to jump instinctively pressing down on his gas pedal. I scoffed "Rude much..." Connor sighed running his head through his dark hair
"It's okay baby what were you gonna say?" Connor shook his head "Honestly it can wait I don't want us late for school."

I frowned how could it wait if you've been waiting to tell me about this since Tuesday?

I rolled my eyes "Okay. Whatever." I didn't mean to give him attitudeI just waiting being worked up about something just to get turned down.

-

The rest of the car ride home was in an awkward silence. Connor refused to say anything not even when we stood out in the student parking lot. I tried to call out for him but he was immediately swept away by his football friends.

I walked into the halls gripping onto my purse with my head held low. "Niya! Girl come on!" my head held up high when my friends called me over.

I smiled wide prancing down to meet them. "Hi girls!" I greeted hugging each of them close one by one. "No Connor?" I shook my head "He had to catch up with some friends."

One of the girls scoffed "I really don't see what you see in him." The others muttered in agreement "Y'all always do this." I annoyingly folded my arms across my chest.

"Because we're concerned. All he does is follow you around  like a lost puppy. And don't get me started on how emotional he is." one scoffs while the others laughed eventually making fun of Connor.

I bit down on my tongue "None of you know Connor like I do."

"We know he's a bitch. You remember that one time Jaxson wanted to fight him what'd he do?" she asked. "Went down and make friends only to get popped in the mouth!"

I grew angry once they erupted in laughter "He's not a fighter okay!" I defended. The school bell rang but the girls were too busy laughing to notice "Imma catch up with y'all later."

I didn't wait for a response my platforms clicked against the smooth floor I walked down to my class not stopping to greet anyone in my way. I wanted to say good things about Connor but they're right he's too babyish.

No matter what I do I can't bring him to be that masculine person he needs to be. He acts like a little boy I groaned as I entered my classroom trying to stay calm when I remembered Connor is in my first block.

I glanced to see him smiling wide with his best friend captain of the Football team Logan. Once the door closed Connor shot up and waved me over to the empty seat beside him. I don't care what those girls say he may seem babyish...

But he's my baby!
