Four cats perched on a smooth stone boulder, the water of the river churned around them, and the rapids beyond threw a starlight mist in the moonlit air.A fog began to roll over the river banks on either side, and soon, only a watery mist could be seen all around. The four cats remained still, all their eyes locked onto the rapids ahead. They seemed to be waiting for something.
As though on cue, white glittering shapes began to move among the rocks that dotted the rapids. They grew closer and closer until six star-pelted cats sat among the stones closest to the smooth boulder where the other four had perched. Those four sat still, their eyes filled with disbelief and wonder.
At last, a meow rose over the distant rumble of the rapids. "Welcome," mewed a dark-pelted starlight cat, her voice cool, and her green gaze wise. "Just like the cats of the ancients, you sought out a new home, and at last, you found it."
"You will find similar struggles in this new land, but just like us, we expect you to prevail." This was a lighter-furred tom, his shoulders broad and his eyes a light glittering blue.
"You abandoned your war and lack of food in the four trees territory. Make sure it does not follow you here." A calm gray star-speckled tom mewed, flashing a soft yet brisk glace at the light-furred tom.
A fluffy gray tom mewed this time, his voice even calmer than the last toms. "But now we have a new message for you, one that you may find troubling and confusing. Though, like all things, will become clear in time."
The four cats sat as still as stone for a moment, looking at the starlight figures that stood before them. Then, all together, they nodded, acknowledging that they were ready to hear what these great ancients had to say.
A wiry brown starlight she-cat spoke next, her tone sharp. "You will slowly meet a strange creature, and one cat will befriend them."
A big orange tom continued the brown cat's words, "Half cat, half monster. He will be intimidating to all but one. He never will mean any creature harm, though does as necessary to protect innocent lives."
As the starlight cats all seemed to go quiet, one of the four cats, a tan-pink pelted she-cat, opened their mouth to speak. "This is all so much information! Though it is good to know Starclan still walks with us." She paused, her face troubled, "I don't remember walking to the river though, nor have I seen this place before."
The starlight cats all seemed amused, smiling, except for the white tom who always seemed serious. "This is a dream! We summoned you here to tell you what was necessary. Though I can't help but feel like we are missing the main point." Said the white tom, his gaze hard.
"You are correct," began the black-furred she-cat, her green gaze flashing between the white tom and the other four living cats. "Listen to what we tell you now, most of all."
All the starclan cats straightened up together, looking at the huddled group, and collectively, opened their mouths to speak.
"A creature; half monster half cat, and a traveler from distant lands, has been born. He hides among you, and one day, alone, he will save the clan."
The starlight cats began to fade away, the watery mist swallowing them, their voices remaining audible for only a short moment as they faded. "Have your full moon gathering at the old two-leg cabin, and meet here every half moon. Ensure every cat knows what we told you."
Just then, they were gone, a blur in the watery mist which made them fade away. The four living cats looked at each other, astonished. However, before any of them could say a word, they too began to fade away in their silence.
