"You can take a seat right there Ms.Saeed." Following orders, Samirah sits on the plush loveseat near a tall oak bookshelf.
Samirah feels cold, nervous. She's been to therapy before and it didn't go so well.
During her first session she was already diagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and dissociative identity disorder.
She wasn't too happy talking to another stranger.
A stranger who didn't understand her.
"Would you like some water before we get started?" Chandra asks looking over at the small girl.
"Yes please" Samirah replies. She feels sick. Nauseous. She didn't take her meds so she was shaking terribly.
Her hands were erratic and moving faster than she could control it.
Her mind felt like it was moving millions of miles per second.
She forget to take her meds, the most important part of her daily routine.
Samirahs brain ran on autopilot. She has a strict routine that she follows every morning.
1. Brush teeth
2. Do your skincare routine
3. Brush your hair
4. Get dressed
5. Eat breakfast
6. Take meds
She forgot eat breakfast.
One small error and auto pilot is turned off.
Handing Samirah the cold water bottle, Chandra sits down on a sofa chair similar to the cream colored one Samirah was currently seated on.
"Good Afternoon Ms.Saeed my name is-"
"Samirah" the small girl interrupts the therapist cutting her off.
Chandra smiles at Samirah.
"Is that who's present right now?"
Samirah nods.
"I apologize Samirah, my name is Ira Chandra, but you can call me Ms.Chandra or Ira if you'd like" Chandra continues, giving Samirah a welcoming smile.
Samirah gives her a quick smile back before dropping it, looking down at her lap.
"Why don't you tell me about yourself hm?" Chandra asks tilting her head at the younger girl.
"Um, I'm 18 and I suffer from depre-"
It was Chandra's turn to interrupt.
"We'll get into that a little bit later"
"Oh"
"what do you like to do in your free time?"
