I was in the middle of a really nice dream when suddenly my alarm started ringing. Why does this happen all the time? At least let me finish my dream stupid alarm!
I opened my eyes and it took me a minute to understand where I was. I guess it will take time to adjust in this new house. I got up and headed to the bathroom. I had about 30 minutes to get ready so I quickly washed my face and brushed my teeth. Then I went back to my room and started searching my luggage for something to wear. I still hadn't unpacked. I guess I will have to take care of this when I return. I put my jean shorts on, a striped shirt and my white converse. My hair were naturally straight so I just brushed them. Then I applied mascara and I was ready. I made my way to the door and I saw Allison in the living room reading a magazine.
"Good morning! I didn't know you were able to read this early in the morning!" Allison was never a morning type so I was surprised when I saw her like this.
"Oh I can't! I'm just seeing some photos of the awards from last night. Where are you going?" I had spent a whole hour to explain her everything that happened yesterday and here she was not remembering a thing!
"I have to go to the cupcake store, remember?"
"Oh right! Your first job!"
"I didn't got the job yet so don't be so excited!"
"Honey I'm sure you will get it. Don't worry! Just be yourself and show them your skills"
"Ok I will. I have to go if I don't want to be late. See you!"
With that I exited the apartment. After walking for 5 minutes I was there. The beach was not crowded this early in the morning and the sound of the waves was really relaxing. I entered the store and the girl from yesterday was there.
"Hi"
"Oh hi! You are the girl who wants the job right?"
"Yep that's me! I'm Lydia by the way." She was really friendly and that made me less nervous.
"Oh right! I'm Emery. So the job doesn't require much. You just need to be friendly with the costumers and know how to use these machines. Do you have any idea how they work?"
"Not really." I said unsure.
"It's ok. I can show you."
Emery started telling me how all these machines work and after about 25 minutes I was ready to start.
"So I got the job?"
"Sure! As you said yesterday you are a quick learner so welcome to 'cupcake land'!"
"Thank you so much!"
I was really excited about getting the job. After a few minutes people started entering the store. I was in charge of taking orders from the tables while Emery was in charge of the takeout orders. Emery had more work to do since people preferred to eat their cupcakes in the beach.
I was taking order from an old couple when a group of teenagers entered the store. They were 3 boys and 2 girls. I headed to their table and I have to admit that I was kind of nervous.
"Hi. What can I get you?" I was looking mostly at the girls since I was too shy to look at the boys.
"Hey. You are the girl I bumped into yesterday! I haven't seen you around. Are you new?" One of the girls said. I tried to remember her face and then it hit me. She was the crying girl.
"Yes. I just moved from Detroit."
"Oh nice!" She gave me a genuine smile.
"Are we going to order or what?" A male voice said and I turned my head to look at him. I recognized him immediately. He was the hot guy who was playing volleyball yesterday.
I was about to answer and apologize when one of the other boys talked.
"Hey mate calm down! Just because you didn't get laid last night and you are in a bad mood doesn't mean you have to be rude."
The others laughed and that made him angrier. He mumbled a 'whatever' and then I took their orders. While they were eating and chatting the girl that talked to me gave me a smile every once in awhile. Something in her smile made me feel welcomed for some unknown reason and I'm not gonna lie, I liked that feeling.
There weren't many people in the store so I can't say I was really busy. There was only the old couple, a family and this group. After about half an hour they stood up ready to leave. As they were exiting the store the girl that talked to me earlier, approached me.
"Hey I'm sorry about my friend. He is not always like that, he is just in a bad mood today." I don't know why she was apologizing in his behalf, she didn't have to.
"Right! Because he didn't get laid last night if I recall correctly?" I couldn't believe myself! Here I was, not only making small talk with a girl I just met but also joking around. Maybe is this friendly vibe she has, who knows!
"Haha yeah probably because of that. Boys and their crazy hormones!" She rolled her eyes saying that.
"Anyway he was being a jerk earlier and since he is not going to apologize for that I thought maybe I could."
"Don't worry, it's okay!" I assumed her.
"Great! Oh I forgot, I'm Jade." She said with a big smile on her face.
"Lydia! Nice to meet you." And it was actually nice. She seemed like a really kind girl.
"You too Lydia! Well I have to go before the others leave without me. I'll see you around." The rest of the group was long gone by now so I guess she really had to catch up with them. But as she was leaving she turned around again.
"By the way, there's a bonfire in the beach tonight. You should come!"
"I'll think about it." I said giving her a smile. She smiled back and continued her way.
Bonfire huh? That meant a crowded beach with loud music and probably drunk teenagers all around the place. Yeah, not actually my thing!
My shift was over around 5 so I headed back home. When I entered the apartment I found Allison sitting in the balcony.
"Hey. Did you get the job?"
"Yeah I did" I said excited.
"That's my girl! I was sure you would!"
She replied hugging me."I also met a girl. She was really friendly."
"That's awesome! So are you going out tonight?"
"No! We just exchanged a few words. She did although mentioned something about a bonfire tonight but I'm not going."
"What? Why? This is a great opportunity to make some friends! I'm sure you don't want to spend your summer alone!"
And now I regret telling her about that!
"Well you know I'm not comfortable around people I don't know and there are going to be plenty of them there." I said truthfully.
"And you'll continue to not know most of them if you don't try to socialize. And don't forget, you will know this girl you met." And so it starts! If I know one thing about Allison is that she won't stop until she gets it her way.
"Well yeah but some of her friends don't seem to like me very much." I said remembering the incident in the store.
"Time to change that! End of discussion...you're going."
I knew that no matter how hard I would try I couldn't avoid this so I did myself a favor and gave up before I lose all my energy.
