Chapter 1 - A start of a new Adventure

Jessica bends down to put her shoes on. Her shoulder length brown hair with slight curls fell over her face hiding her glasses. She pulls on one of her shoes and then the other but doesn't tie them. "You know you should probably tie your shoes," Mariah says, pushing up her own glasses that just weren't sitting on her face right. "Yeah, knowing you, you'll probably trip and fall on your ass," Yareli chimes, unconsciously pushing up her glasses because Mariah did.

"I'll be fine," Jess says as she gets up, "Y'all have your stuff right?"

"Yeah"
"Ye"

"Alright let's go!" Jess slaps her hands together.

"Please do not wander off. Stick with the group as much as you can" instructed a lab worker.

The teacher attempted to keep the kids all together, but it was a big group and they couldn't watch everyone.

"Hey, y'all wanna go check out the spiders?" Jess whispers to Yareli and Mariah.

"No, are you crazy?!" Mariah whisper shouts, "why would you want to go see the spiders? Spiders are nasty."

"I don't know," Yareli says, dragging out the 'o' in know, "it could be pretty cool."

Mariah sighs, "fine."

Jess rubs her hands together and does a quiet evil laugh as they sneak away from the group.

They make their way towards the spiders - for some reason the spiders aren't guarded - hand in hand, Jess in the middle.

"Just so y'all know, if something happens, I didn't witness anything" Mariah states. And with that they walk into the spider lab.

Inside the lab were rows and rows of spiders ranging from the size of speck to the size of a large cat. Many of them had abnormal colors too. But what all of them had in common was a number on the abdomen. Jess, Yareli, and Mariah looked around noting all the spiders.

"I've never seen spiders like these. What the hell are they doing?" Mariah questions.

"What'd you just say?" Jess and Yareli ask.

"I mean heck. What the heck are they doing?" Mariah tries to correct.

Jess hugs Mariah, rubbing her hand through Mariah's curly brown hair, and looking up to the sky with a fake cry says, "Look at chu. Growing up."

"Hey guys check this spider out," Yareli whisper shouts.

Jess and Mariah join Yareli at a spider about the size of a pea. It was mostly grey but had red stripes around it. Below the glass it was in was a screen that read:

Grey House Spider
Status: Unknown

"Hey, I kinda like this spider," Jess mentions.

"Why?" Mariah asks, looking at Jess questioningly. 

"I don't know"

"Wooow Jess" Yareli says.

Jess just shrugs.

Splitting up, they look around some more. There were multiple rooms in the spider lab. Jess stayed in the main one with the grey house spider, Yareli went to a room with pink lights, and Mariah went into a room with multiple colored lights.

Mariah walked into the colorful room where more spiders lay in glasses. Looking around at each one, mesmerized by the webs and disgusted by the spiders. She paused at one glass. The name plate read:

Number 9
Huntsman Spider
Status: Unknown

Mariah looked in the glass again. "Aw shit" she says as her breath leaves her. Inside the glass was supposed to be a huntsman spider but instead there was nothing. "Shit shit SHIT" she spins around to face the door but stops in her tracks.
