After eating the tasteless casserole, I made my hair ready for the cafe. It's still raining and my mobile phone says there will be a huge storm in less then two hours. So I will just sit behind the bar and have to wait for customers, no one goes voluntarily with these weather conditions in a cafe. But I shouldn't complain, I still get money for that. Not enough money though, after work I should have a look at a second job.
As I sat in this old trashy car of mine, the radio killed my last hope of having a not horrible day. I hate todays music, and someone thought it might be great if the radio would start as soon as anybody opens the car. So many reasons to get a second job, I really need money. What kind of life is this? Why does every human depend on money? Why not on how nice they are? How much they really do for the environment? The past people just thought: "Oh, you have money? You're a good person, here, five horses for free, we love you!" Sure, and the people nowadays just love this way of treating people even more. "You only have less than hundred dollars? Seems like you're pretty lazy, getting a living is not that bad. Look at our country, everyone here can do it." Even the homeless, sure. They don't confront me like that, more like in an indirect way of lecturing me how to truly live. Strangers just love living lives for others. Okay, head empty now, I already thought enough crap for today.
As expected, the cafe was getting more and more empty with every minute. The sky changed and got really dark, loud thunders were followed by bright lightning. I do love thunderstorms, but those sounds while working give me shivers. Putting my uniform on, my fast heartbeat started again. Why? Why does this have to happen all the time? I still hid in the private room for workers, but my shirt was already sweaty. Breathe, breathe, it's all good. More and more people are leaving, no need to panic. Okay, let's do this. I went to the customer area and... no. Still so many people in here! Let's take it easy for the start. I served an old man by bringing him some strawberry cake with a coffee. Suddenly, Lisa was standing behind and frightened me. "Hi Wynn. You're working today?" Was all she said. "Uh, y-yes. My name is on the employee calendar." She always has a serious face, it just makes me even more uncomfortable. "Oh, I forgot, okay. I'll go home, you can manage these customers alone." No! Don't go! "Sorry, uhm, your shift isn't over yet-" "Who cares? Lift the chairs before closing, okay?" And she walked past me, out of the cafe. "Bye!" I shouted after her, but she ignored it. She's so ruler-ish. And taller than me, louder than me, smarter than me. I can only hope she lets me live along in peace.
Only three older women were having a chat in the corner, the rest was gone, so I started calming down a bit. Not thinking anyone would enter the cafe now, I changed my uniform. It smells bad. After returning to ask if the women want to have something else, two young men entered the cafe. That's surprising, normally you can find here only old people, most of them with expensive purses. Maybe they entered the wrong cafe? But they don't seem to care and chose a table next to the big windows. Strange, why are they going in here during such weather? It's their decision, none of my business. One of them had natural red hair and a happy smile on his face. He was quite the talker, but the other man, short brown hair and a bit taller than the other one, didn't seem to care. But even from far away, I could notice his fatigue face with its dark shadows. He definitely didn't come here on his free will. The women now were talking quietly, almost whispering, afraid those men could hear their boring chat. With that, I was able to hear a bit of the conversation the two men had. Something like "girlfriend" and "so hot" was mentioned by the red guy, and not too rare. Okay, this type of man, here it comes. Time to ask what they would like.
"He-hello and welcome to our cafe!" The brown haired just gave me a weird look. Yes, he sure is really tired. "Have you already decided?" No respond. Did I interrupt them? Why are they not responding? Did I say something I shouldn't have said? Was it my stutter? I'm a bit relieved it was only one little at the beginning. "Uh, yes." The red haired now put aside the menu and looked at me with big eyes. "Sorry for the wait, Madame." Now he started smiling at me, still not looking away. Uhm, what does he want? No, don't panic. Trying to get my orders, I just looked at the other one. "One cup of coffee, please." He said with a fatigue smile, trying to sound not sleepy. "Okay, a-and what may I-I serve you?" Oh no, please just give me your order, I wanna disappear. "Hm... one piece of apple pie and a hot chocolate. Could you please bring me some of that?" The brown haired sighed. "Su-sure..." And I went straight back to the private room. What am I gonna do? I can't serve them! They drive me crazy! Leaning over a table, I tried to breath again. "Wynn, are you okay?" Huh? It's Angelina! She was here the whole time? "How did you-" "I came in through the back door. We're both listed for this afternoon." Now her voice starts getting annoyed. "Sorry, I... uhm." Quick, I need an excuse so I can leave earlier, I don't wanna serve these men! "Sorry, Angelina. Uhm, I received a call from my neighbors. Water is in their living room, I most likely have a pipe fracture and would have to be there no-now. Can I pl-please leave earlier today?" Oh please, believe me! "Oh, okay. Yeah, but now you're leaving me alone. Can you do my tomorrows shift instead?" What? Those customers here are no problem for her. "Yes, I'll do it." I need the money, and tomorrow is just another day that has to be over soon. So why not? "Bye then!" I said. Angelina just nodded and pulled out here mobile phone.
After changing, I hid in the toilette. Hoping the two men would leave soon, I waited there for half an hour. It would be weird if they saw me leaving without serving them their food, so I wanted to be sure. Angelina is blocking the back door, sitting there and playing mobile games. If she sees me, she'll know I lied to her and that I didn't have to go home. I hope she served the waiting men at least. After the time passed, I was ready to walk out through the front door. No! They're still here? And now they see me! Ugh! And the red haired just gave me a sign to come over. Should I ignore him? No, I'll go there, say I'm sorry and finally leave the cafe. But they were the reason I wanted to go! Crap. "Hey girlie, so you're still here. We thought your shift is over." Great. Just great. What does he want from me? I just wanna die. "May I get your number?" He gave me a wink, smiling in a weird way. The other one was just looking outside the window, being annoyed by his friend. "Sorry, gotta go." I said quickly and left as fast as I could. He doesn't even know me! Why are boys like that? Why do women fall for that? It's clearly visible he's not caring about my feelings, but only for his own. Oh world, why do you have to be like that?
The next morning, I already stood in the cafe and received orders from customers. Angelina is sure happy about her deal. Todays weather is much better than yesterday, soft clouds are dancing in the sky, birds sing their songs. It's also colder than yesterday, but at least no storm during my shift. Reminding myself of yesterday, I can only hope those two have already forgotten about me. And I hope they won't enter this cafe anymore. They weren't served well and had to wait a long time to get their orders, so I'm sure they don't wanna go in here anymore. No way! I was hoping too soon. The brown haired guy just entered the cafe again! But he's alone, what a relief. He chose the same table he has chosen yesterday. "Good morning, what may I serve you?" He looks way better, his face has a contended expression and all shadows are gone. "Hello again. A coffee, please." "Okay, thanks for your order," I said and prepared the coffee. He really enjoys it in here, else he wouldn't order only coffees, would he? I don't know, I'm not him so there's no need to think about that. After some minutes passed, I brought him his hot drink. "Thank you." He said gently. "Wait a moment, please." As I was about to go, he asked me to stay. "Y-yes?" "I'm sorry for the way my friend behaved yesterday. Please don't think about that too much. He's... special." He chuckled, looking for my reaction. "Uh, no no, it-it's alright, really!" Him mentioning this again, I just couldn't focused anymore and I started sweating even more this time. "Okay, good. I hope you're alright. You left the cafe pretty fast." "Uh, uhm yes." No excuse came to my mind, so I just left him and went to other customers. I felt his looks on my back, the whole time. I can only hope he's not too distracted.
After ten minutes, he gave me a sign and I walked over to him, he sure wants to pay and leave. While he's looking for the right sum of money in his pocket, he started talking. "This is a very beautiful cafe, I feel very comfortable in here." I was just watching him, confused why he would talk to me. "I really like your windows and old fashioned style. It reminds me of my hometown." Now he looked in my eyes, smiling gently and handing me over the money. What should I say in respond? I have no idea! "Oh, uhm, great, thank y-you!" Was the only thing I could say. "Have a nice day!" I said quickly and placed his cup on my full tablet. Then, suddenly, he put his hand over mine. Xlshypnxzy?! I couldn't think and couldn't talk, my heartbeat was so fast, he made me so nervous. Why does he do that? "Calm down." He said in a soft tone. I was trembling and dropped the tablet. No! How embarrassing! Quick, I need to go, now! I could feel all those looks from the whole cafe focused on me. I wanted to run, but stumbled over a huge glas on the floor. I fell. All I felt was pain, everywhere, laying in thousands of shards. Some people screamed, pointed at me and I stood up, showing them I was okay and that they can be quiet now. But as I was again on my feet, I saw my right hand, full of blood. I was about to fall again, my mind was dark, I could only see black. A warm body catching me was the last thing I noticed before collapsing.
