I have giant feet which I like to hang out of the window in the car, I like the show Doctor Who, and I have a horse named Picasso. My favorite dessert is tiramisu but I'm trying to cut sugar out of my diet and I'm a vegetarian. My name is Amber Colette Seott.

"Scientists will eventually stop flailing around with solar power and focus their efforts on harnessing the only truly unlimited source of energy on our planet: stupidity. I predict that in the future, scientists will learn how to convert stupidity into clean fuel."

-Scott Adams

After going downstairs to discover my brother, Dean, eating pie and threatening to get it all over his black, white, and red flannel, I ate a hearty breakfast of baby food (yes, baby food. Who says a fifteen-year-old girl doesn't need to get her daily nutrients through mashed sweet potatoes?), and cereal.

"Dean!" I yelled, "Lucas is outside. Are you coming?"

"Yes, yes," Dean replied. He hustled out the door and jumped into Luke's jeep.

Being the only girl in the car, the guys were kind enough to let me sit in the back with Thomas... while Dean was allowed to have shotgun. They're so nice.

While I checked my appearance in the rear view mirror, Luke adjusted his black-rimmed glasses and fluffed his brown hair as Dean leaned on the side window, staring at Thomas in the backseat.

"Tommy," Dean said, "pull yourself together and acknowledge our presence. What's wrong?"

"Nothing," Thomas replied, "it's just that NASA predicted that the solar flares are hitting Thursday."

"Ohhhh and we're ready!" Luke yelled. "Tommy and I! But you guys can come too I guess, however, we won't be dragging your dead weight around."

"I have my survival gear ready. And Lucas just got his new backpack that is swag, so you guys better have something to offer," Thomas asserted.

"We've got the Subaru. It's got all-wheel drive," I said.

"Um, jeep? But we could use a couple of guys with all-wheel. Dean, you getting the Sub' next week?"

"Yeah. Mom's getting this truck that's really tough. It's a stick."

"Nice," Thomas said, "now we just need supplies. I've got some stuff, but only enough for me. Luke has some junk, too. How about you guys?"

"No," I said, "but my parents are jumping on the bandwagon. I think we're saving for backpacks- but we're not gonna die on Thursday. That's all faked. I looked it up, solar flares have been continually predicted and haven't impacted us. So don't get your hopes up. We'll live."
