When Violetta Bridgers was seven years old, she'd begged her mother to sign her up for the theater program at the local community center. She remembered it vividly actually, the way she dropped to her knees on the kitchen floor while her mom was just trying to cook dinner. She begged dramatically and when she knew her mother wasn't focused on her, she made herself cry.

It was a skill she had all her life, and honestly thought it was something everyone knew how to do. For the most part it was only used when she wanted to get her big sister in trouble.

"Mommy! Phoebe hit me!"
"Did not!"
"Did too!"

But after her mother obliged to her desperate pleas to join the after school club, the skill was then used to further herself during auditions. She heard the same praise from directors and teachers alike.

"Natural Born"
"A future star"
"Drama queen"

She'd be lying if she said that didn't start the fire within her. The passion that she built knowing this was her thing. She was finally the one being recognized for something. Not Phoebe. Okay, and sure, maybe it does make her a jealous person. Sue her. She was in third grade and had the emotional maturity of a turnip.

Still, she loved acting. She lived and breathed it. She'd host plays in her living room, where she'd sit the entire family down and watch her perform from her script she wrote herself. It's funny to think that one meltdown on the kitchen floor brought her here today.

She stared up at the ticking clock on the wall. In person auditions always brought on a feeling she couldn't quite name. Like a mix of nausea, excitement, fear, stress, and happiness all bundled up into one ticking time bomb inside of her. She'd already chewed her nails to stumps the night before, so she began chew her bottom lip. Suddenly a voice cut through the waiting room.

"Bridgers, Violetta?"

She felt every eye in the room watching her as she walked to the double doors of the audition room. Half of her blamed it on nerves, but the other half thought otherwise.

"Bridgers? Like Phoebe Bridgers? Are you like related or something?"

She'd heard it a million times before, and she knew it was a completely innocent question. Yet still, she was tired of just being boiled down to "Phoebe Bridgers' little sister". She was Violetta Bridgers. She was her own person. Not just some conjoined other half of her sister. She shook her head, took a deep breath, and put on a smile for the directors sitting behind the wooden table.

"Hi, I'm Violetta Bridgers and I'll be reading for the part of Sadie Harper."

A few days later Violetta was sat in her car with her best friend Jenna. She anxiously tapped her fingers on the steering wheel. She bit down on her bottom lip, wincing as the swollen and purple bruise forming on it throbbed.

She was waiting for the call that would possibly determine the future of her career. If she booked this role it would open her up to more projects besides short films, TV show appearances, and music videos.

This was her chance. It was no longer going to be "Violetta Bridgers: Phoebe's younger sister", instead "Violetta Bridgers: Actress". She was practically buzzing with nerves. Then something was actually buzzing. Her phone. She lunged forward and pulled it off the charger.

"H-hello?" She cringed as her voice cracked. She nodded and listened as her manager spoke on the other end of the line. Jenna watched attentively, trying to get closer to hear what the woman was saying. Violetta promptly swatted her back and stuck her tongue out silently. Jenna rolled her eyes and sat back with a smile. As the conversation came to a close she let her face fall somber. She nodded slowly.

"O-okay, thank you so much. Bye now, thank you again Melanie." She hung up and dropped her phone on the center console, letting her head fall forward onto the steering wheel. Jenna immediately began trying to comfort the blonde girl.

"Hey, hey now it's okay. There's always next time and-"

Violetta couldn't help but break character and began to laugh hysterically.

"I can't believe you fell for it! I got the part!" She threw her head back in laughter as Jenna's eyes widened. She gently punched her friend on the arm.

"You bitch! I'm proud of you and I'm taking you out for dinner tonight now, but still!" She begins to laugh as well. They envelope each other in a hug before falling back against the seats.

"Thank you" Violetta said with a smile.

"For what?"

"For being here today."

Jenna nods.

"I couldn't miss this for the world. This is probably gonna be, like, bigger than your wedding. Speaking of which... guess who commented on your instagram post?" Jenna smirked. Violetta scrunched up her face in a confusion.

"Who?"

"Oh, y'know, Gracie Abrams!"

That only confused Violetta more.

"First of all: how does that relate to my hypothetical wedding? Second of all: No she didn't."

Jenna shook her head as if she was explaining something to a stubborn toddler. Which honestly, is actually pretty suitable of a comparison for Violetta.

"First of all," The brunette began. "It relates to your hypothetical wedding because this girl TOTALLY has a crush on you and I think you do too. You just don't know it yet. Second of all: yes she did, look!" Jenna pulls out her phone and begins furiously scrolling through the comments on Violetta's latest post. The blonde sits there with wide eyes and a slight blush to her cheek.

"I- what? No, she doesn't- why would she? How do you know?" She stumbled over her words, amazed by Jenna's boldness. Though she probably should be used to it by now, due to their years of friendship. Jenna looked up.

"She deleted the comment!" She said, completely ignoring Violetta short circuiting.

"What did it say?"

"It just said 'cute!'"

"Just 'cute!'?"

"Yeah! She was probably talking about you"

"Or she was talking about the cat, Jenna. Y'know, the animal that everyone thinks is cute?"

It was an extremely unlikely friendship between the two girls to say the least. They were like the sun and the moon. The winter and the summer. Violetta was a realist and somewhat pessimistic. Jenna was the complete opposite, opting to view the world through rose colored glasses. They balanced each other out, and maybe that's what made it work so well.

Violetta shakes her head and turns the key in the engine and begins to drive to their favorite coffee shop.

"Jenna, I love you, but you're a hopeless romantic. Gracie Abrams does NOT have a crush on me and I don't have a crush on her!"

The other girl sighed and slouched down in the passenger seat.

"Now you're just lying to yourself"
