It was the biggest dinner event of the year. Celebrities from all over the world beg for invites. It just so happens that i'm the most famous director in the world, not to brag or anything. I've been working on film sets since i was a baby on my dads knee, watching him work with reels of real film.
This year it was Taylor that was hosting the dinner. Everyone knew of her famous fourth of July parties and this has been highly anticipated since she announced it eight months ago.
When i found out she was hosting i nearly died, i've been to these dinners for 4 years now but Taylor has never been seen at them. ever. She's the most elusive celebrity i've even known... not like i know her at all. I've directed one film that she's been in - Valentine's day, When i was just young and so was she. I never saw her in person after that but i've been in love with all her music ever since.

Hailee dropping the theme bomb on me wasn't totally unexpected, and it's true, i do have the perfect dress ready. It's a dark navy wrap around dress. with silver stars that are embroidered from the bust to the floor. In case it gets cold i have a small silver slip and i'm also carrying a purse with a disposable camera.
Laying out my clothes for tomorrow night I feel almost childish about how excited i am, and to finally see Taylor again and have dinner with her is unreal.
the next day
i'm meeting up with hailee today for a quick lunch before we go get ready for dinner. It's at this cute local café which is really hidden - only 4 or 5 seats makes it perfect for us not to get spotted by paparazzi.
"Hailee!!!! i've missed you!"
"urgh shut it y/n, it's only been a few days" my best friend groans jokingly
"A few days too many!" i laugh and playfully shove her.
"how are you feeling about actually seeing Taylor again... i'm going to be honest you look like you had unfinished business from way back then" Hailee looks at me like i'm some heartbroken teen - i'm not, though i was a little before.
When i was working on valentine's day, Taylor and i had become close friends, we were both young and looking for a friend in this big scary industry. it really hurt when she just had to up and leave when filming ended, and especially after it happened.
"Please Hailee, it's been 15 years, she probably doesn't remember that it was me that directed it. i've done hundreds of not thousands of films since then! It's also not about us, it's about still being invited to the biggest dinner of the year!!!!" I'm being honest with her. It's been and gone. I'm just happy to be going.
"mhm... sure y/n..." she looks at me skeptically
"Hailee! i. am. fine." i say it while giggling but i'm serious at the same time.
"okay girl!! i believe you. I need to go pick up my dress and get ready, but i will see you there!"
sipping the last of our coffees we hug and part ways.
