Kalahni walked into the corner store during the late rainy evening, he looked up to the cashier who had her eyes glued to her phone. He grabbed a bottle of Advil, he shoved it into his hoodie pocket a began to rush out the store.
He was walking too fast and the Advil fell out his pocket, the plastic smacked against the marble flooring catching the cashier's attention. "You know you have to pay for that." She said in a very annoyed tone.
Kalahni panicked and snatched the Advil and started to run out the store and down the block, the rain soaked him entirely until he stopped to catch his breath. He looked to his left and there stood a police officer an the cashier girl. "Shit.." He mumbled to himself.
Kalahni sat in a holding room as he waited to be interviewed, he was beyond terrified at the idea of getting thrown in jail.
He watched a girl walk in and she looked at him slightly confused, she sat in the chair across from him. "What's a kid like you doing here?"
He raised an eyebrow as he sat up, staring at the girl. "I..I got caught stealing advil." He sounded embarrassed to say it. She chuckled, a observed him for a second. "Why?" He hesitated to answer but eventually he did.
"My mom deals with crappy headaches so.." She nodded in understanding, then she asked another question. "Relatable, what's your name?" He felt oddly comfortable around her so he decided to go ahead and tell her.
"Kalahni. You?" He fidgeted with the strings of his hoodie. "Maria. I like your name,it's unique." He smiled in response. "Thanks...so uh..am..am I getting locked up?" Maria looks nervous for him now as she rest her face in her hand.
"Well I dunno. Maybe I can convince my dad to let you off the hook." He looks at her a little suprised. "Really? You'd do that?" She nods her head glancing as the door where footsteps were heard.
The door opened and a man stood there and two other officers. "Maria? Why are you in here? The who let you in here?" She sighs, pulling her father to the side while Kalahni watches nervously from his seat at the table.
"Can I ask for a favor?" She stares at her father intently. "Which is?" She hesitates a little. "Can you let this kid off the hook? Please? He's not all that bad, he was just getting his mom medicine for her headaches. Please?"
His eyes narrow at his daughter, he gives I thought. But eventually he gives in.
